I would like to remind all military to observe OPSEC and not repeat any information you might have heard that has not been released for public consumption.I know nothing about any aircraft or troop movements.
I agree with Hiker, on the whole. The rice paddies are low and soft, and the Korean Government has said that they do not have funds to buy fill dirt. Even though they are providing us a considerable piece of raw acreage, it is just not yet suitable for construction of the many buildings required for what we need to support the numbers of people. I also have heard that there will be no move until everything is in place to accept the number of personnel involved. Two years? No way. Probably not in five. The world situation being as it is, and with tighter funding here now- maybe never. Presently I believe the U.S. is to pay for the move, into buildings provided by the Korean Government. Some say they will have parking garages in the basement or first floor! My opinions are just opinions, based mostly on what I read in papers of both nations, and on my 8 years of familiarization with Korea, and over 40 years working for the U.S. government. I will continue to attempt to get more info on precisely what was promised to us if we return the larger tract, which is on Yongsan. |

I agree with OPSEC! I only talk about what was given at the Post Commanders inbrief that is open to the public and spouses.
As for the 2 years it may not be completed, but the move has already began (as briefed at the above inbrief) it may not be done in 2008 but well on the way.

Moving right along!
Yes. sir! Moving out smartly- hitting the ground running! That indeed continues to be the word from the top. On schedule!
The only trouble is, we are all dressed up, and have nowhere to go... You don't have to be Oscar Meyer to recognize bologna when you see it! |

Joe;
Too funny. It is even more amusing that anyone who has been in Korea know all too well that nothing happens very quickly. Any idea how many billions of yards they will have to bring to build the base layer? Since they are building on layers of human waste I would imagine they will have to have at several inches of sub layer material to support the new construction. I do not believe they will even come close to the projected 2008 date preparing the ground work that has to be completed first. Only time will tell. |

I never said it would be completed by 2008. But the move has started. The building of new baracks is being done. We are taking lessons from the koreans on this we are building up, 10-15 story buildings. We already have so many Soldiers down here that they are putting 2 people in a 300 SQ foot room
with all there gear and beds and everything. Alot of the new land will not be what you think it will be, M60 ranges and stuff like that. I've been here for almost 9 months, agreed not as long as alot of you have been but when was the last time you have seen Camp Humphreys? I see ALOT of work being done and fairly fast, these guys work 7 days a week sometimes. THere have been alot of changes in these 9 months, are they enough to bring all the people and all the changes by 2008 to be completed by 2008? NO i agree with you. But if you don't see the changes then maybe you should look at all the bases that are closeing, were did the people go? Some back to the states others... Believe what you want, will it be done by 2008? No, has the move started? Yes.

We need to remember OPSEC when posting on line at anytime.
I am not sure if you understand what a Army Garrison is comprised of. There is also the fragmented 2 ID who is also scheduled to relocate to Pyeongtaek. I am also not sure if you understand the resources it will require for an increase in the size of the population they are projecting. The numbers are projecting the number of personnel minus family members. The fact that most government employees and contractor personnel are married that is a minimum of +1. What about the dependent children? Where will they attend school? What about the familiy support center, hospital? As you can see the list continues. As I stated, 2011 - 2015 is more likely if at all. Only time will tell. |

Come on now guys, I have 18 years in the Army I understand what a Garrison is comprised of. I understand what resourses are going to be needed. I also undersand the Mr Joe has more than 40 years government, I congradulate him for that.
As for 2 ID I FULLY understand that because guess what, i'm stationed at Camp Humphreys and I am 2 ID. All I'm saying is that the move has begun, I know it has that is why we are crowding 2-3 people into a room that is only suitable for 1. Now, I'm talking about when the move will begin. Are you talking about the ending or the begining? Will the 8th Army Commander be here in 2008? No way, will there be alot more people here in 2008 because of the move? Yes, becasue it's already began. Has anyone taken a look at the Hump latley and all the construction going on?

There will be all day Protests for 4 days, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 8 AM to 6 PM according to Stars and Stripes. There should be a lot of press on this one, and lots of KNPs to represent the KN Govt.
I feel badly for the farmers, and hope for minimal violence. The Govt has promised High Fines for farmers attempting to use the fenced in land. We will have some upset GI's too, being severely limited on travel. It is a good time to step back and let Korea do it's civil disturbance thing. Keep clear of the area if you can. Tai- flip back to my post "Protests" on page 2 to see how many KNPs were sent down previously. Chuck- I was down there last week- didn't mean to infer that you were wrong in any way. I know you are in the heart of the area and know more about the real happenings than we out of towners could ever know. Please keep us up to date with the real story as it unfolds! Indeed new buildings are going up, and expansion is evident on the property already prepared. They are still moving in too fast for conditions, obviously convinced to do their best to irritate the wonderful volunteers, America's finest Freedom Fighters. The three persons in a room with gear is a sad testimony to the intelligent planning of the US Army! I believe that the US realizes that the Korean Government will not be able to hold up their end of the bargain in the time frame we expected. It will become a big issue at the higher levels in the Korean Government, and will make some headlines. As you know, losing face in ANY WAY is a monumental issue in the Far East, and they may NEVER come out and say they can't meet the 2008 prediction. The US, being blunt and apparently having no idea of the seriousness of the oriental custom of saying "Yes" to "Save Face", even when they know the answer is "No Way", will possibly show their impatience and lack of knowledge in International Relations, and end up looking even more foolish. Sometimes it makes you wonder if only the Boy and Girl Scouts have Adult Leadership! |

Well believe it or not ladies and gentelman, there are actually 2 protest's going on at the main gate of Camp Humphreys, for the dyas that Mr Joe has indicated.
As of right now the Ville is of limits to all military, except to go to work or back home. Their is the problem, the protesters are keeping the shops and the bars from making money. So the shop and bar owners will be protesting the protesters. Mr. Joe your correct in alot of your statments about the Soldiers and the state they live in. I don't know alot, just what i hear under the ICS cord (what we use to talk while flying) while flying. And what i see. I'm in no way saying your wrong either Mr. Joe I have no clue where you work or what you do. You may work next to GEN Bell? Know much more than i do about this move. I also agree with you on how things get done around here. Have a good day Mr. Joe.
