NCS to CS
Is it virtually impossible to get CS when your husband gets over there?

Re: NCS to CS
Impossible? No. I came NCS (as did Chucksnee's family) and we're both CS now. It all depends on whether or not there is a slot open. In our situation...my husband arrived in January as an E5. He also picked his E6 up in January but we had to wait until May for him to actually get his E6 because his ERB was messed up from being prior service. There was an E6 CS slot in his company so as soon as they fixed all the paperwork, we applied. We received our CS orders about 4 months later. I think it's faster than that sometimes but the slot my husband actually took was for an E6 at brigade in Yongsan. So, I think there was a little bit more paperwork in that.
Your husband should be able to ask someone in his company (it was the OIC in my husband's company) and they should know if there are slots available in your husband's rank. I know some people on here say don't bother if you're E2 or E3 but things are changing rapidly here. I say apply! It doesn't matter who you are. The worst that could happen is that it would be denied but at least you can say you tried. Go for it and good luck!

Re: NCS to CS
All unit dependant....I know a company commander here on post that has 50 CS slots (yes I said 50) for E-4 and below.

And this is especially true if the service member asking for the CS is a go getter. If you've proven yourself to be a valuable asset to a unit, the leadership will usually work hard on your behalf to get you a command sponsorship. On the other hand, if you're a subpar performer ~ they probably won't try to help you at all. |

Re: NCS to CS
Thanks so much for the input. I am going to come for sure anyway but its nice to no that if we love it there is a chance we could stay longer.
