Arrival
Now when the family arrive do the husbands normally drive to the airport? Why I ask is in the packet I got from ACS it talks about a shuttle that runs from the airport to somewhere close Humphreys. Just wanted to know if instead of my husband fighting traffic ect if the kids and I should think about that as an option.

Re: Arrival
I personally prefer the MWR shuttle. My wife picked me up when I arrived, after the last shuttle departed, and I had wished I got in earlier. Even at 2330 there was traffic and something which I was not expecting...toll roads. You catch the shuttle at the USO located at arrival Gate 13. This shuttle will take you to Osan AB; a short trip (30 min) to Humphreys. If you're on orders, you can claim the cost of the shuttle on the travel voucher.

Re: Arrival
My husband wasn't able to meet me at the airport so I was going to take the shuttle but it was full. According to the USO desk I came in during a time when there were a lot of people PCSing, and understandably the soldiers are priority to get on the shuttle.
I would just make sure that if you're going to be taking the shuttle to make sure you have a back up plan just in case it's full.

Re: Arrival
I paid for a taxi to the dragon hill lodge...it was around 50-60,000 won. Then of course when I got to the dragon it was Valentine's weekend so they were completely booked. The desk there gave me a list of hotels that I could call for a reservation, but since I had never been to Korea I opted for them to make me a reservation at one of the 3 hotels that they can actually call for you. I ended up at the J.W. Marriott which was expensive but worth it for convenience purposes. The next morning we showered and called an AAFES cab to take us to the bus terminal on Yongsan. We took the bus to Humphreys from there. If your husband is comfortable driving to the airport or has someone who is comfortable driving there to help him, then that is the way that I would go. That's just my opinion but I would feel more relaxed knowing that my spouse was with me.
From what I understand there is also a public bus that runs from the airport to Pyongtaek but I don't know anything about that. Maybe Nearlywild could help if you were interested in that.

Re: Arrival
Oh no public bus. Baby steps when I get there hahaha. Maybe when I have been there awhile I would be comfortable with that. Thanks for your info I want to know all my courses of action before I arrive.

Now the subway train goes from the airport to Seoul station to Pyongtaek.
Sponsors should tell you to get your own reservations at the Dragon a couple of months ahead of time. WWW.Dragon Inn Korea. Korea is still a hardship tour because of poor planning ahead. Good luck. |

Re: Arrival
It's more like a chartered bus than a public bus. The buses are really nice and comfortable. They cost about 14000 won and leave every 30 minutes. I highly recommend taking this bus. What time are you arriving? I can give you more details if you want. The CAC on Humphreys also has a bus but it only runs once a day early in the morning.

Re: Arrival
I am not sure when we what time as of yet we will not be arriving until the first part of Oct. I just want to make sure I have a good idea of what I should be doing ahead of time. If I can when it gets closer would you mind if I contact you about those details? One thing I did find out about is that the flight is only 10 hours from Hawaii so I was jumping for joy that its not the 18-20 people were talking about.
Thanks, MsPrice and Nearlywild your both great help to all us trying to make this crazy adventure happen!! |
