Finding a new Furry Friend

I was wondering if anyone knew where my husband and I could find a furry little critter. Preferably a cat. I've been looking but haven't been able to find anything. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate hearing them. Thanks

Re: Finding a new Furry Friend

I have dog you can have for free. He's small and not very bright. Do not buy anything from the guy outside the Osan main gate. Youngson usually has animals for adoption. I haven't seen many cats at any of the local pet stoes.

Re: Finding a new Furry Friend

You might try checking with the Osan vet clinic, they have pets up for adoption, both feline and canine, and I heard not too long ago about a sweet cat that had been brought in that was in need of a very good home.

I did see the guy outside the Osan main gate with one the last time he was out there (he's been gone a few weeks, has anyone else noticed that? :) ), but I would second Kristen's caveat about buying animals from him.. there are some absolute horror stories about folks getting animals from him that have died in only a day or two, or getting an animal very very cheaply, only to end up spending thousands in vets bills trying to get the animal healed. The guy is absolutely horrible to the pets as well, I loathed the idea of giving him money for anything, given how badly he treats the animals.

That being said,though..here's the other side of that coin.. I finally caved and relented to letting hubby and little one get a dog. We were walking by the vendor one day and after watching him throw a pup so hard that it yelped for 10 minutes after it hit, I decided that even if I ended up with a dying dog,at least I could rescue it and offer it a few days of comfort and love...so we ended up bringing home an adorable little Husky/Retriever mix that we named Sascha. It took us almost 3 weeks to get an appointment at the vet clinic at Osan (we got him during the -last- exercise, so they weren't making routine appt's,etc.) , and I spent those three weeks in horror , afraid that the little guy might have some horrible disease..much to my delight, though, at his first exam, the vet was totally amazed that we'd gotten Sasch from the guy outside the gate... he's perfectly healthy, no fleas, no worms, no parvo...and so far he's been a great pet for the family! We've had him almost 4 weeks now, he's pretty much housebroken, isn't showing any behavioral problems (other than the typical bloody nipping that pups do..) and is extremely pleasant to be around.

Sometimes,I guess you just get lucky :)

Dee :)

Maybe you husband is right. Where you live, and access to an outside run area are very important, among other considerations. Too many people leave animals at home, locked up inside an apartment, and then blame the animal for tearing up and stinking up the house and crying all day while you are at work! Animals get lonely and mischiveous just like kids. Some apartments do not allow animals. We have neighbors who live in a third floor apartment. Their pets require walking and going out to perform their toilet activities, but sometimes the owners neglect the trip! Hoseing off the third floor patio then becomes an issue for the residents on the second and first floors!!!! Pwew!!

Re: Finding a new Furry Friend

Thank you very much for all the wonderful suggestions. I will definitely look towards the osan vet clinic...do they have a website or anything? I know they do things differently here but I didn't know if they might have a listing for pets that are for adoption. I'm super excited about getting a pet because I stay home a good part of the day and I need some company :). I miss my pets back home very much and just a furry little companion would make things here feel more like home. :).

Re: Finding a new Furry Friend

I saw some kittens at the Vet's office that is across the road from the walk through gate at Humphreys. It's beside Puffin and the Beacon church. My friend was there to get her puppy some shots when I saw them so I don't know if they were patients or for sale. They looked like they were for sale or adoption to me. Anjeong-Ri has two pet stores that I know of but I don't think I've seen cats at them, just dogs. And I don't know what kind of reputation they have.

Re: Finding a new Furry Friend

the osan site is www.osanpets.com but I don't think they have any cats available right now.
