Question what to pack?

Hey everyone, I am going through my house trying to figure out what I should send with my husbands 1000 pounds of household goods. Any advice? What are some must haves, and some dont bothers? I think they will be coming in just a few short weeks to pick it up, and I am starting to get overwhelmed! "they" say it will take about month to make it over, is that about right? Or should I plan on it taking longer.

Also, does anyone know if the Army pays for the rest of my goods to be stored while we are in Korea NCS?

This is a good post to read through. It's not nearly as big as the NCS thread.

If you like to decorate for Christmas, bring your decorations. The selection is small and expensive at the PX. If you can spare the weight, bring your mattress. Korean mattresses are extremely hard. You won't need the entire bed or box springs, just the mattress.

Re: what to pack?

so I read the thread you recomended. Thanks, a lot of useful info. But it seems no one had any insight on "kids" things. Should I bring toys, bikes, crib? I would hate for them to be over there 1 1/2 years without all of their toys, especially since we just spent a whole lot of money on Christmas gifts!

Re: what to pack?

Sorry, our son is only a month old. We haven't even thought about toys yet. They do have toys here but the selection is small. Same with the cribs. I think Osan only has one crib to pick from. Humphreys has none. The PX/BX stores here do have free shipping between stores. So, if you want the crib from Osan, they will sent it to the PX on Humphreys.

When I was deciding what to pack, I started with essentials that were expensive to buy and then worked my way up from there. I didn't send things like plates and drinking glasses. I figured that they were too heavy and a set is pretty cheap at the PX.

Re: what to pack?

I would bring toys that yours kids cherish. They don't really have much to choose from here but they do have some at Yongsan - it's just a matter of getting them back (if you don't have a car). Cribs at Osan are only $100 and then I think the mattress is $50. My son was only 3 months when we moved here and he had a really nice crib my parents had bought for him but we thought it just best to buy one here (just easier). Bring necessities - I wouldn't bother with the things you just like but don't really need.

Oh, and I think it took around a month for us to get our stuff. But I think it just depends on how much they have coming in and going out...
