Re: Korean Jokes?
I'm guessing Malay jokes are like Korean jokes. Humor is found in ordinary things, like eating, bodily functions and sounds(breaking wind); often crude and often not understood easily by Westerners.
Confucian sayings are similar. "Arms bend inward" (Charity begins at home). "You have a long tail" (Shut the door behind you). "The other man's rice cake always looks better" (Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence). ![]() |

Koreans generally are smiling, happy and enjoy life very much. They normally will enjoy singing, dancing and laughing at every opportunity. they all love what we call slapstick comedy, and visual comedy, like the Three Stooges. I guess Mr. Song may not be able to tell you a Korean joke in English that would make you laugh. |

Why ? Because You and our feeling is basically different. So, When I am watching your movie, Im often not understand why you laugh in some situation. When I learn English, it is the most difficult point. |

Re: Korean Jokes?
If you'll look around on this board you'll see that shsong21 thinks we are disrespecting him (Korea) because we find things that are not normal in the states, that we find, see or hear funny.
What he has not realized, is that the questions he has asked us (americans) on this board are very disrespectul (why are americans so fat, was a question that shsong21 posted that comes to mind). Thats enough on this thread, if shsong21 continues to post the way he is then I will monitor him more closely and start locking/removing his posts that are hateful and not inline with the original topic.

Go ahead and post any Korean jokes you think are funny!
Don't worry about any Koreans who might misunderstand and feel offended. Mr. Shsong is only here for the purpose of learning English, as he says. He will learn to listen more and talk less in the Jokes forum. We are here to enjoy comedy as we wish. Non-Native English speakers have to try hard to understand the comedy, or please just move over to a more easily understood forum to read. Comedians offend as a part of their livelihood. It is called comedic license. (I'm expanding the scope of this conversation tonight under the Religion and Politics Forum.) Move over there and join me if you wish. |

Re: Korean Jokes?
Don't know if anyone remembers this...but back in the late '80s / early '90s, Johnny Yune had a late night talk show on Korean tv. It was patterned after the Tonight Show and Johnny even had the Korean version of an Ed McMahon sidekick (fella named Jo Yong Nam).
During the beginning of the show, Johnny did a monologue, complete with jokes. This style of entertainment was new to Korean tv at the time, and I'm not so sure it went over well. Johnny once told this joke (I'll translate it into English for the sake of the non-Korean speaking board members): This lady had a pet parrot that could talk. She came home from work one day, and while she was changing her clothes, the parrot said to her, "Bwaaaaaaaak I saw it!" The lady looked at the parrot and told him to shut up. The next day while changing her clothes, the parrot said the same thing. This time she really got mad and threatened the parrot saying, "If you don't stop saying that I'm going to rip every feather you have off of your head!" The next evening, the lady had a date with the world reknowned actor Yul Brynner. Yul came over to the lady's house to pick her up and when he came inside, the parrot took one look at Yul's head and said, "Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaak, you must have seen it a few times too!!" |
