Taichan,
Dang! I'd love to see your rig. That's awesome. I am jealous. Did you get the Raptor drives as well? |

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
raptor are only useful when you start getting 4 of them in raid 0 from tests i've screen. i use 3 250gb WD Raid Edition (only ligit 5 year warrenty in harddrives are on Raid edition) 320gb RE drive. and there is a 160gb samsung but i think i might put that onto my TV system when i get to it.
i'm actually still waiting for the 7900gs to come in the mail, the guy who i bought it from sent it parcal post because he thought that was the fast way >_< so i'm waiting a few more weeks for it... so i have a 6800gs in it for now and if i really want to game the 7800gtx can go in it, the reason i don't want to do that is the 7800gtx has 130 watt of thermal power vs like 80 watts on the 7900gs. i'm also waiting for a mounting system for my scythe ninja to come in since the screws got lost in the mail for my the first mounting system. parts of my older rig are being given away to my very best friend in the world. Antec lanboy Biostar Tforce6100 Opteron 144 (for lack of another more "normal" cpu for the system) OCZ 2*512mb Gold 2-2-2-5 utt-bh5 Gigabyte x800xt (shes getting this because i want to keep all Nv in my system incase a card goes, drivers won't be messed up) WD 200gb ide WD 250gb ide i need to stop buying every good deal i see @.@ the cpu in that setup can do 2.9ghz, but the board maxs out at 300mhz HTT so i can't make it that far |

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
Did you buy a separate cooler or use the stock cooler for that speed? What bios version of the gigabyte mb did you have?
If I do build a rig like that, I would still prefer to have the Raptor as my OS drive even without RAID. I am not much into RAID just because I never care to back up my data lol. The access time is what I really care about. But those drives are expensive. Not to mention it is a bit harder to recover data from a raid drive as well. If I have important data I want to keep, I just keep them on two separate drive and/or a copy on DVD. |

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
I have a Scythe Ninja, but currently i have it on stock cooler because i don't have a mounting system for it do to... losing a screw in the mail >_< so i'm just going to spend the $5 and get a better system then to mess around trying to get it to work that way.
http://pclab.pl/zdjecia/artykuly/sur...a64/ninja5.jpg thats the scythe ninja. i'm using F6 for the bios which is deisgned to give better speed for the E6300/6400. i only have Raid on one computer and thats Raid 1 on my moms because she loses a lot of drives and i got tired of setting up her system -.- (and i don't know how she does it... ) |

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
To get it running stable at 3.2Ghz with a stock cooler is awesome. You must have gotten one from a good batch. Did you check out the temp?

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
it loads about 50c, which is a little higher then i'd like but with stock cooling its ok. and thats only under full load on both cores

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
LOL Todd, it is not high tech mumbo jumbo, just stuff you know if talk about computer parts.
Anyway Taichan, 50C is not bad at all. I know some people like to run their cpu cool. I ran an Athlon CPU at 54C idle and 65C fully load for a couple of years. Sure the lifetime maybe cut down a bit. But from 15 to 10 years? Who keep their old cpu that long lol? I might have to build me a new rig when I go home in a week. Thanks for the response. |

Re: Core 2 Duo E6400 up and running
your heading back state side? you could get newegg diliveries in days instead of 2 weeks, lucky :P
anyways, ya, i just don't like my room heating up ^^;; also i want to go for more, 3.6ghz is my goal, and if i can get this ram there, that will be insane, since i know people who DDR2 800 that can't get it there and i have 533 ^^ my AXP used to live at around 35 but 55 on load, so ya i know about warm CPUs. its the 7800gtx that is a warm bugger, seeing as its thermal output is 130watt which is why i'm going ot put the 7900gs into the case with a thermal output of 80ish watt and normally out runs a 7800gtx and even some 7900gt O.O |
