What is the best graphics card to get ...
... to use a duel screen? I want to get a graphics card that allows me to uses two monitors at the same time. This will help me when I am building web pages. It must be for a laptop though.
Mike

Well my friend, I can help you on this...First thing is it depends on your needs.
Are you going to be gaming and if so, the size of your monitor. If not, if you are just building web pages then you dont have to get all expensive. Second, what graphics port do you have? PCI, AGP, PCI-E? OK, now for the brand. I prefer BFG Technologies because of two reason: 1. Lfe time warrenty with Awesome customer support. 2. They are quality cards! Here are the PCI-E cards I recommend. All support dual monitor. They have two DVI outputs and come with two VGA adapters. 1. Low end card: $200-$250 Shop around BFG Geforce 6800GT OC (Perfect for older games and web page design) 2. Mid range card: $250-$300 BFG Geforce 7900GT OC (Will play all the newest games but at reduced graphics) 3. Top Dog! I have this one and it is absolutly AWESOME!!!! $500- $600 BFG Geforce 7900GTX 512MB RAM (I play BF2 and Oblivion at max resolution!! 1920x 1200) I found mine on EBay for $460.(new) The best overall card is the 7900GT OC It has more bang for you buck. It runs cooler too. The reason I bought the 7900GTX was I bought the Dell 24" monitor and this card was the only one to push games at 1920x1200 with all settings turn on high.

one, a 7900gt is not midrange, 2 topdog right now is a x1900xtx 512mb because of the fact that it does HDR and AA, and 3, 6800xt's come with 2 dvi and can be had for $100 or less.
also a 7600gt would be a better midrange card then a 6800gt now he said for a laptop. Mike, your only hope is a PCMCIA card and those cost 250ish and are hard to find. http://www.villagetronic.com/e_pr_vtbook.html << thats what i've seen on the net. |

Oh laptop...i must have missed that. Cant be much help there as I dont even upgrade mine.l actually prefer the BFG Geforce 7900GTX over the ATI. When you run in SLI, it out performs the ATI crossfire setup. ATI is still learning how to use multiple GPUs. You can even run 4 Geforce cards together! (Only if you are rich and have lots of money to waste) The 6800GT OC is the new low end card on the market when you compare it with the new games out there. The 6600 used to be but it has a hard time playing some of the newer ones...Oblivion is one of them. The 7900GT OC is the best deal right now as it is just slightly better than the 7800GTX and is cheaper. Thats why I like it as my mid range.

don't i know it... i have a 7800gtx, i'm trying to sell it.
the 6800gt was replaced by the 6800gs, most unlock so they where faster then the 6800ultra (faster ram then either of them but 12pipes) but my comment is, the 6800gt is low end for gaming but its not a low end card. 6200TC, 7300, x300 x1300 are low end cards. by the way, i'd suggest getting a lot faster cpu/higher overclock as that system has to be CPU limited and 6800gs are more expensive then the 7600gt and a little lower, so ya, your better off with the 7600gt and all current systems are over kill to have in a dual videocard set up unless its like 2 6800nus or something as they're cpu limited right now the best system you can built right now is a Yonah T2700 overclocked with dual x1900xtx thats your least CPU limited set up, Merom setup will be the best on the next gen cpus both of those are Dualcore laptop cpus overclocked. *reads WAY too much* |

Ok, I hand the geek cup to you. I will submit and go hit the chat forums....lol P.S. You are right about the CPU limitation...I am feeling it big time with my rig. I play Oblivion and only if I could have that FX-60! Soon...very soon....muahhhhh!

FX-60 are well overkill... i've had my Opteron 165 (ya my siggie is way out of date), the FX-60's don't overclock better then any other cpu really, i've seen people make 3ghz with the opteron 165 O.O! it requires water or even phase coolin gthough as the temps are just SO high
and i can get it up to 2.6ghz without much work. temps just get high... but i ahven't tried with the Typhoon yet since i'm currently not really doing much with it. and tis sitting in a Aspire X-qpack Matx case right now instead of the P180 I have a 3700+ that does 3ghz and thats a great little overclocking cpu. I can't want till the reverse hyperthreading comes out where they can make both cores act as one (*drools at the thought of a 5ghz + AMD) and ya, i win at the geekness ^^ i spend a lot of time reading stuff |

AM2 is K9 (i think it might still be K8 i heard the 65nm cores with the faster transisters are going to be called K8L), so ya... it will be awile... it was an idea they started and then canned and then started again, so we might never get to see it ;.; |

Most laptops have a vga out port. The later one with Intel 900/950, ATI or Nvidia chip will allow you to extend the desktop to an external monitor. So you won't need a new video card. There are not that many laptop that will let you replace the video card. Even then, you can't have dual output from that card anyway.
