Re: [Computer TIP-1] IP check on your computer.

Okay, I'll give my tip too.

How to access file on another computer that's share an Internet router, meaning you are not on a network.

1. Create a share folder and put the files you want to share in there. Right click on a folder and go to properties. Check the "share" box. Give whatever share name you want to call it.
If there's a networking wizard popup, just cancel it.
2. If you have software firewall, make sure you put the IP addresse of each computer as trusted site. Get the IP address from Sshong explanation above. You have to do this to both computer.
3. Now from the other computer (the one you want to get the file to), go to Start/Run. In the run box, type in "\\ipaddress of the other computer".
4. After you press Enter, you should see the share folder. Just open it and drag and drop.

This method is good if you don't have a network setup and you just want to get files from the other computers occasionally. It is more efficient than having to use a USB drive to transfer.

Hi ! friend ! How are you doing ?
Your tip is very good but ...................
Hmm......so to say..... your tip have one a problem.
You know, I'm a Network security engineer now. so, if you create some a share folder on your computer, you will be infected with a computer virus.
The computer virus can find out your share folder through the network.
So, If you always have some a share folder on your computer, then your computer will be infected with a virus soon.

Ah, how would you get a virus from having a share folder? I have used this method for over 3 years and never got a virus. This is only between your two computers on the local router. You'll get a virus only if one of your computer has been infected.

Hi...friend !
Hmm.... I have working over 6 years in a computer network security.
one of my work, it's visit my customer's companies.
I set up some a network securities policy in there.
Most of them have a share folder on their computer, so their many computers are damaged by some hacking virus.
But one of important, they don't know it at all. They are unaware of a computer virus. Because their compuer anti-virus programe don't get it.
Today, the computer virus are very excellent. Some computer virus can gain an administrator's authority through thier share folder.
But this computer's owner don't know its fact at all.
I think Microsoft windows system very weak for the network security.

I think she is talking about an internal share with no internet connectivity. Shares work on an internal network but usually it is better to have a seperate share drive with restricted access control and permissions. I agree that on a home network creating a share on your PC drive is opening yourself to problems and you need to really restrict the access to the file or files shared.

Re: [Computer TIP-1] IP check on your computer.

Taichan, you are on the same router, but doesn't mean that you have a network set up, even though the router assigned the computers with the IP addresses in the set. These computers normally don't talk to each other at all. It just connect to the router to get internet access. Maybe I am wrong, but that's how I think it is.

Unless you already have a trojan or virus on one of your computers, I don't see a problem with this at all. This is quick access to files on another computer without having to setup a network. You can always un-shared the folder when you finish transfering files. You guys are making it bigger than what it is.
Think quick, simple, no network setup!!!

Hi....friend ! long time no see !
I know you're a network engineer like me.
You're right. And it's very convenience way but it's also have a many risk.
If your computer connected to internet or intranet, its way is very danger.
