Cool HelllPPP

I had a AMD 64 computer built in Seoul, and I had XP Pro 64 put in. It was the free 6 month trial version. As it has expired, I can only run it for about 1 and 1/2 hours and it will shut down.
I want to pay to get a new version, but I am not sure it will install, as the one I see at Newegg says I have to show them I bought a new computer; (OK), I can do that, but it also says I should install it over 2000MI or win 98. And it says once I open it, I can't return it. ???
How can I be sure?

Every neighborhood in Korea has a little computer repair shop. I'd just take it there. They do fast, reliable work and don't charge very much (only a fraction of what you'd pay in the States).

Cool Re: HelllPPP

Yeah, that's who built it for me. No complaints there. It is just that I want to get a legal copy from the US for once! I know I can get a workaround, but I'm attempting to get something I can build on later, and not have to be told that there is a problem with my license every time I attempt to get an update from microsoft!

Re: HelllPPP

If you buy the retail version, it should be a full version. You don't need to install it over anything. You can install it fresh from scratch. If you buy the upgrade version, you will need to have the old version installed or disc handy. As it is WinXP 64, it should be the full retail version. You don't need to have Win2K or Win98 installed. The only problem with the 64-bit Windows is the lack of drivers. But since you are already running it, I am sure that you can find the drivers somewhere on the web if you don't already have them.
I would just go with Windows XP Pro 32-bit. There is no use in going 64-bit as there's none or very few applications or games running 64-bit right now anyway.

The reason they want you to show them that you bought a new computer is probably because you are buying an OEM version. With OEM version, you must get it with a piece of hardware. It is just a legality thing.

Re: HelllPPP

Thanks anyway. I Don't understand about Russia. Maybe you mean I would not accept help from a Russian? I would accept some things, but not a pirated (stolen) version for this new computer.

I think most people do not respect copyright laws across international boundaries. I just want my main computer to be completely legal, as I may one day want to upgrade it from a microsoft website, which I believe may be an advantage. So many safeguards are being installed, and yes, I know there is a way to defeat each attempt to safeguard a copyright. Often available within minutes. Still, I'm going to do the right thing.

Maybe it is like people who buy a real Rolex watch? Koreans value a REAL Rolex watch VERY MUCH! I knew a Korean businessman, who was successful, but not VERY rich. He saved for years and bought a Rolex Oyster watch- as much a status symbol as a set of expensive American made Golf Clubs. After a few weeks of showing it to his friends, he was mugged in an alley after drinking, and his 10,000,000 + (Won) watch was stolen. But for a few weeks, he was feeling great!

My say mean that most korean people are using MS O/S(Operating system) after dowload at P2P like above Pic.
Even we can pass a authentication of product by access to the Internet.
Even we can get windows security update files through internet everyday.
I think that MS(Microsoft) makes money very much in all over the world.
But they are don't bring down the price. never.......
Their price too expensive to some person like me.
So, we will crack their products and then, we will upload it at P2P.

[I Don't understand about Russia. Maybe you mean I would not accept help from a Russian?]
You know K-19 Movie ?
at K-19 movie, Russia soldiers want not America soldiers's help.
My say is means it.

Re: HelllPPP

shsong21

please do not talk about illiegal downloading on this forum.

and what card to you use for a TV out Joe, most cards have it built into the video card

I personally prefer the ATI video cards for TV out as you can set it up to just display Video on the TV leaving your computer monitor to still do other stuff (it displays the over lay, so if your using a game or something thats fullscreen it has priority and that takes some working around)

I use a little 8" LCD portable DVD player as a TV on my desk connected to the computer, this is also Energy effent as 8" LCDs pull like 50w at most compared to my 27" TV which is almost 400w or my spare monitor which is 200w (though it is bigger)

anyways thats a little off topic
