C&M cable modem settings and wireless router

My landlord in Itaewon just coordinated with C&M to install a cable modem for me. Wonderful. However, the Belkin wireless router won't work. I've exhausted the Belkin support center, so I'm down to wondering if there's something unique about the C&M's internet service. Anyone have any success in this area?

I'm running Vista Home (32bit) and have verified the router is Vista friendly.

Go to www.seoulcc.com (Seoul Computer Club)and present the question if someone doesn't give you the answer you need here. Let me know if you don't get it done by noon Sat. I have another option.

You can't use the wireless router into your cable network Because it is illegal.
The calbe boradcasting center can sence your router.
The cable modem that is in your home has unique Hardware address.
The center backbone router will only permit its address.

Center router <---------------------> end-user cable modem

1. what is ur hardware addres ? (Center router)
2. My address is xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxx. (end-user)
3. ACK (center router)
4. ACK (end-user)
5. give me IP address ?(end-user)
6. it is ur IP address(center router)

So you're telling me no one in South Korea has a wireless network in their home? Really? Or are we misunderstanding each other?

I visited the site, but I can't read it; I don't see an English option either.

Re: C&M cable modem settings and wireless router

Although I do not have C&M, I do have cable internet service through TBroad and have been able to successfully set up a wireless network in my apartment using a Belkin wireless router. I am running two computers off this network, including the one I am typing on now. I think your issue probably has something to do with the way you are setting up your router.

Re: C&M cable modem settings and wireless router

O.k., first off: thanks to everyone. I understand why C&M has this precaution set up, to keep folks from giving away "free" internet without paying. I get it. That said, here's what I've done so far to bypass it:
- I cloned my laptop's MAC to the wireless router. This has allowed the router to stay connected to the cable modem. Check.
- When my laptop is connected via Cat5 to the router, I have a good, solid access to both the router and the 'net. Check.
- I can see the wireless network SSID and using the WEP key I set up connect to the wireless network. Check.
- Once connected, however, I can't see the router (192.168.x.x) nor the 'net. Crap.

Just FYI, I'm not wanting to give free internet away to all my Itaewon neighbors, I simply want to use my laptop for what I bought for - portability.

Input?
