Admittedly, I'm used to having DSL back in the states, but that shouldn't matter that much. I've set up networks in all my homes over the past 6 years and never had this much trouble.

Cool Re: C&M cable modem settings and wireless router

There are guys at the Seoul Computer club that can answer your questions. The club has a wireless setup near Yongsan. Probably you can get into it from your home.
There are three or four different cable companies, and some wireless nodes set up around Yongsan.
I have KT internet, but I have no need for wireless, so I can't speak from experience whether it is open or not. I'm pretty sure my boss has wireless with his KT Cable, but he pays extra, I think, about $40 per month. You can call KT on weekdays and ask, if you are interested.

- I cloned my laptop's MAC to the wireless router. This has allowed the router to stay connected to the cable modem. Check.
- When my laptop is connected via Cat5 to the router, I have a good, solid access to both the router and the 'net. Check.
- I can see the wireless network SSID and using the WEP key I set up connect to the wireless network. Check.
- Once connected, however, I can't see the router (192.168.x.x) nor the 'net. Crap.

Just FYI, I'm not wanting to give free internet away to all my Itaewon neighbors, I simply want to use my laptop for what I bought for - portability.

Input?
Umm...Let me tell you something.
Basically, the wireless router or IP share device using is a illegality in Korea.
But some cable internet service companies are approve them because of their customers.
I worked in some cable internset service company before.
I running the Core Router there. We can see your non-authorization network equipment and can control them.
Even we can inspect such as what website you like is, when you access to the internet, what you download is, what you read is etc....
We can watch your every movement. It is jsut IT Techonology.
Did you see the movie, 'Enemy of the state' ?
It is not a lie. The IT Techonogy can watch your privacy.
Can you believe that ?
I'm working now in this filed. I don't care whether you believe it or not.
But if you are using IT tech , you won't get out of there.

Yes, shsong21, we understand about the cable companies. As we said before, we have no desire to use a connection for illegally sharing with non paying users.
We know all about the ability to detect usage and to monitor. We have computer engineers and programmers here also. Even a nuclear physicist if you ever need one!

We can legally use a wireless system between our own private computers and Internet Explorer with no problem. No need to connect to Korean cable companies. There are other systems available. Thank you for your concern.

As you know, I'm a IT engineer. You don't believe the movie story but I'm not. I love the Hollywood movies because they are giving a lots of message about our future. Some designer get a idea from the movie.

shsong21~ I think that you meant to say, - in your hands.
Oh and there is no space before an exclamation mark. Please, pass this on to your Korean hagwon teacher for me. Much appreciated.

I have a router and it works fine for my own personal laptop. Just currious. If you do in fact work as an IT for the cable company, could you please get CBC, BBC, Animal Planet, the Travel Channel and a couple more movie chanels added on to my cable package? Much appreciated! Oh, and I'm sure you can figure out where I live from all of your cool toys at the office. No problem, right?!

BTW, no offence intended. All the best!

Re: C&M cable modem settings and wireless router

For the record, I never did resolve this issue. E-mails to the Seoul Computer Club went unanswered.

Brian D:
Come out Gate 1 to the USO (upstairs) on May 10th at 2PM to the Computer Club meeting. Bring your router questions and we'll get 'er done.
