Dumb Questions

So I have some dumb questions and I'm not sure where to ask them at so I started my own thread. My first dumb question is what does KATUSA stand for?

My other question is, is it normal for people begging to grab you? I was walking home with my kids today and this lady came up to me begging, I shook my head and kept walking, then she grabbed my arm! I mean I have noticed that the people begging are usually persitant but I never thought someone would grab me! I jerked away and grabbed my kids hands and left quickly. Did I miss some sorta cultural thing, I mean I've seen plenty of people in the states begging, but I never had anyone touch me. Yeah I know it's stupid, thats why I listed it as stupid questions!

Kris... I don't know if it's normal, but I've had the same thing happen, and it freaked me out too! I had seen a beggar in the street in the marketplace, just sort of sitting there, and another blindman in the subway in Seoul, who begged, by just walking through the cars, and waiting for people to put money in his cup, but I had never had someone so insistent, and physically grabbing me. It was a woman who did it to me,too...I wonder if it was the same woman... I felt really badly, you know me, Richard keeps telling me that if I lived in New York City, I'd be broke in a day, as I have a really hard time saying no, but..the lady kind of scared me, and I had Aric with me.

Re: Dumb Questions

Yes, the beggers do grab a lot! Also, they know to go to the Americans who usually give a lot more than Koreans.

Re: Dumb Questions

I have a quick question that hopefully someone can give me an answer to. Almost everytime our house owner comes over he brings something. Once it was strawberries and today it was apples. My husband and I would like to give him something in return for all that he has done but we're not sure what we should give him. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Re: Dumb Questions

More rent money :)

I'm sure they'd appreciate anything. I wouldn't get him something from base because then he might ask you to do it again and even say he'll pay for it next time. Maybe some Korean Pears?? Most the times when we get stuff it's usually a box of fruits or something.

Oh about the begging people... When you give some of them money don't show them how much money you have. I reached into my pockets to give someone change once and when I gave him my loose change they reached for the dollar bills I had in my hand. So I had to beat him down....jk... but that did really happen
