Re: Dumb Questions

I have a quick question about our LES. First of all, it looks crazy (which was already expected.) Under the entitlements it says "Advance debt" and where you can read the messages it says "Indebtness due us" the amounts equal eachother. What is this? We haven't taken any pay advances. Could it be that they overpaid us (we got a rather large deposit on the 15th) and this is there way of taking it back? Also, how long before our LES levels off and becomes somewhat normal again?

Hey I have a question for all the pregnant ladies out there, do you have a lot of people toughing your bellies? Do you think it is more so or less then in the US?

Cool Re: Dumb Questions

You didn't ask me, but believe me, it may happen a lot in Korea! Women touching and asking direct questions are a part of Korean customs. If you can handle it, smile. If not, carry an umbrellla and stave them off!

(Men know better than to touch a female, though.)

A month or so ago a Korean salesman in a furniture store punched my oversize stomach and then proceeded to get behind me and see if he could lift my 210 lbs off the floor! I was somewhat surprised, but I got over it right away, and had a good laugh.

More so here than the States , here it is a cultural thing ,like Mr Joe says, in the States I saw it as crossing my barbed wire personel space and did not like it .lol

Re: Dumb Questions

I have a question for some of the "old timers" here. I was walking my kids home tonight and heard "Taps" playing at 10. My dad was in AF when I was really little and I thought that "Taps" was played at 5ish, the end of the work day. Is my memory fuzzy or was it changed at some point?

Reveille is played in the morning at 6 I think. Retreat is played at 5 and Taps is played at 10pm. Although at most bases my husband has been at it was played at 11pm.

Re: Dumb Questions

No it depends on the base and when they have the "Bed time" I have noticed here on the Navy base I work at that the Navy does not raise the flag till 0800 where as the army is 0600.

Cool Re: Dumb Questions

A short story.
Our daughter was 3 years old, in Kindergarden at Camp Red Cloud, Korea, in 1974. The cannon fired loudly every day at 5 PM with the lowering of the flag and the playing of the National Anthem. All stopped, faced the flag, and saluted.

We later moved to Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. The kids were playing in the little playground adjacent to our home on Plum Street, on Base. The Base Loud Speakers Played the National Anthem, also at 5 PM. Cathy would stop all the kids and make them salute the music. One evening, as I was in the area, I joined the kids in the tradition. Cathy said afterwards, "Dad, I've been wondering, is the Air Force too poor to afford a Cannon?"

I, too, missed the cannon. It really is an attention getter! Sometimes it fires 21 times here at Yongsan! And smoke everywhere!

Re: Dumb Questions

Mr. Joe, did they ever play Taps at the end of the work day or has it always been at night? I guess the exact time doesn't matter, but basically Reveille in the morning, Retreat to end the work day and then Taps to end the day. Has it always been in that order?
