Re: [GI Korea] Why are Koreans Rude?

Short lil chick,

I've been in Korea for a while. Western women do not fit in well in this society. Actually, I have seen very few western women that actually liked Korea. It's usually because they're jealous of all the beautiful Korean females in this country. It's also because western females seem intolerant of Koreas culture/ways. Adapt and overcome ma'am..............

Another example is: some of the sidewalks here are small and (of course we walk a lot) I am usually holding my kids' hands, but even if I am alone I have this problem. No one moves! You have 5 guys standing on the sidewalk talking and rarely will anyone move out of the way. I even learned to say "excuse me" and "pardon me" in Korean just to be nice but NO ONE CARES! I have to walk my kids out in the street or push my way through.

Another thing that bugs me was I was at the Songtan subway station in the bathroom with my youngest who is 3. I wasn't about to let her use the little hole in the ground, so I was waiting to an American style toliet to open up. The one the we were standing in front of opened an the lady came out so we went to go in, and this 20 something tried to jump in front of us to get in. I shot my hand across the door and said "no" and she just went "Ugh" like she had been waiting so long and as if she had to go far worse then a 3 year old.

I haven't had the chance to stray far from the base, but my encounters so far make me feel the Korean people are extremely rude.

I also find it had to believe. i do think that women might not like they way men can sometimes treat women here, but not because they are jealous.

Re: [GI Korea] Why are Koreans Rude?

Alot of western females in Korea are a bit hefty. Of course it will bother them to see so many Korean females that are in much better shape. I can honestly say that there are alot of obese foreign women in Korea. Far more than 50%.

I say adapt and overcome because that's what any foreigner here should do. When in Rome...
I'll cut in line if I can get away with it. I did it in middle school and high school...why stop now? An AAFES taxi driver called me a fat f*ck to my face yesterday. I appreciate his bluntness. I wish I could be that blunt with a foreigner without causing a fuss...... foreigners are way too sensitive. Especially here in Korea. If you're here in Korea try to understand it here. If you cant accept the way things are in Korea then leave and quit complaining.....

Again where are you getting your stats from? 50% of western woman are hefty? Come on.

And define "in better shape" because you are skinny means you are in good shape? I have a problem with that also......but when you can see ribs and all the arm bones and legs bones, that is not healty...

I would rather have a hefty woman than something so thin I might break during fun......

I do agree with you that you are in a country and you need to conform to that countries laws and courtesy's, but don't just take stats off the top of your head and say something like you have been saying....

Ok it looks like it's time to do a poll...or we can do a social experiment in Itaewon. I can go out in front of the Hamilton Hotel with a clipboard and some sunglasses and make scientific observations. I can make these observations without the use of a weight scale. I will decide whether a foreign female appears to be overweight simply based on appearance. I'll bring a guy that likes hefty women to avoid bias. We will observe for approximately 3 hours and record our results afterwards. Then we shall assess the percentage of obese foreign women in Itaewon after this controlled experiment.

Re: [GI Korea] Why are Koreans Rude?

I won't argue that some women aren't jealous. I know some of them are. But I dont think its the majority. I don't want to be flat chested with my ribs poking out and have no butt. My husband married a girl with the opposite of that for a reason. :) No jealousy here. Okay... maybe a bit jealous of their hair.. .but thats about it.

I think that you probably have a preference toward Asian women which causes you to think that American women want to look like Koreans. I am proud to look the way I look.. .even if I'm not stick thin! :)

I do agree that they are rude here about getting out of the way, driving, etc... but the Koreans I live next to and have encountered around town have been nothing but kind! They smile at us and play with the kids. Its great.

Well I have to say I'm hardly jealous of Korean women. I don't think very many Koreans are beautiful, some have pretty faces, but that's about it. Besides I have nothing to worry about, hubby isn't into asian women. I have more to get jelaous over in the states, I always say if hubby hadn't married me he'd have married a hispanic girl.

Biff -- Korean females are not in better shape just becuase they are thin. I think they look like Twiggy and are shapeless.

You guys assume just because I have have different standards in manners than Koreans that I must be jelaous. Give me a break!! These are just things that I have observed as rude from my own veiwpoint. I like the differences because it makes great conversations for cultural differences for my psychology classes. I didn't realize that commenting on Koreans being rude must mean that I can't adapt, am fat, and the most ridiculous of all, that I am jealous. Funny how these comments were made at a female and not a male, maybe I should just assume, without ever meeting you, that you are sexist.

Shorty,

I'm not saying you're fat or can't adapt. I'm just saying what I think might be reasons that waekuk nyos dont like Korea. Thanks for the sexist comment :)
