Getting to Camp Humphreys from Pyongtaek Station
Hi---
I recently moved to Anseong (teacher from Wisconsin), and I'm trying to figure out how to get to camp Humphreys on those nights when I want to actually go out, instead of drinking soju with my rural Korean neighbors. I've figured out which bus takes me from Anseong to Pyongtaek, and it stops at the Pyongtaek subway station. Where do I go from there? Is there another bus that will take me to Camp Humphreys? Do I need to take a cab? is it in walking distance? Or is there a bus that will take me from Anseong to Humphreys? Thanks in adavance for any assistance. |

Re: Getting to Camp Humphreys from Pyongtaek Station
The 20 bus will get you to Humphreys. When you are at the subway station, across the road you will see a Pizza Hut. Cross the road to get to the Pizza Hut. There is a road that is right beside the Pizza Hut to the left, cross that road, then there is another road, cross this one too. The next road, you need to make a right down that road. This entire section of road is just one big intersection. Just incase I'm missing a road in this intersection, make sure you go down the road that has green bricks for the sidewalk. You won't have to go too far down this road to get the bus stop for the 20 bus. It's right in front of the McDonalds. There is another bus stop that may be a little less confussing. At the subway station make a right down the main road in front of the station. When you get to the bus station, turn left down the road that is across from the bus station. I think you can see a Paris Baquett down this road. Again, you won't have to walk far down this road and there is a bus stop on the left. You can get on the 20 bus right in front of the subway station but it goes the wrong way. Once you're on the bus, it makes a stop at the drive through and also the walk through gate of Humphreys.

Re: Getting to Camp Humphreys from Pyongtaek Station
It is at least a couple of miles to US Army Garrison Humphreys. (No Longer a Camp.) I remember when I went down from Seoul on the Subway. I came out the front exit at Pyongtaek, and didn't have a clue. There was a person nearby who I assumed was an American. I asked how to get to Humphreys.
He said,"Take any Taxi, about $10; or, go across the street, turn left, and go to McDonald's. That's where you take the # 20 bus for 900 won." The bus line ends right at the Drive- In gate. You can find the walk-in- gate to the right , about a block away. When I was there, last year, there were no signs at all! I assume you know you need someone authorized to sign you on post, or perhaps you will be satisfied with the English speaking companionship afforded by the westernized community outside the gate. In any event, welcome to our forum. and to teaching in Korea. After a while, you will feel right at home. |
