Re: Funny Korea
Alright children thats enough. I started this thread because I wanted to read about other people's experinces in Korea, or things that they see that make them chuckle. No one is picking on anyone else. Shsong you've been told at least twice that the purpose was for haha funny, I don't think anyone here needs to explain anything else to you. If you are getting insulted don't read it. Oh and tell your friend from Colorodo to move out of the ghetto so he doesn't get shot.
I saw a truck, overloaded with pallets take out a power line and keep going. I thought that was pretty dang funny. I also think it's pretty funny that now that it is cold outside everyone on scooters wear helmets to keep their head warm, even though that's not the purpose. Another thing is right outside the gate and to the right, they have torn up that road 3 times in Novemember. The first time they put down this red stuff for treading. After that they tore up each side of the road (i think they did one side twice too) to lay pipes or something. Between watching them do things in an illogical order, completely distroying the road, watching the drivers get confused and block the road so no one else can get though, and people going through the cones to where the construction was actually taking place, I have been very amused. Why? Because of all the construction I have seen in the US I have never seen such confusion. I'm not the only one either. An aquantance of mine (who happens to be Korean) stands there, watches, snickers and shakes her head right along with me. |

Mr. Shsong seems to have a new American friend! Maybe that is a very good thing. We hope they can help him more successfully with his English! (And maybe with American History, too.) They don't lie, either! We wish you good luck with your new American friend! If he is in Colorado, he may be able to tell you more about guns and cowboys and indians!

I agree all countries have good and bad people. Humans are the most intelligent yet the most horrific. We can offer a helping hand to the weak in time of need but also kill the weak for money in times of our need. Where is there ever a morality in killing? I truly believe that we can live in peace and rely on diplomacy to resolve our differences. Then again we may be programmed to defend ourselves to the point of being on the offensive. Even a single celled organism has a defense mechanism. Are we destined to wage war and kill to achieve our goals. History certainly proved this over and over again. Any thoughts?

Re: Funny Korea
Im knowing that Columbus discovered America.
And he is from Spain. He has started a sailing for his queen. But when he try to go to his home again, he lose a lot of his men and his ships in Bermuda triangle area. I know that it is a mystery until now. His men and his ships suddenly disappear in the area. Do you know this story ? Do you know Bermuda triangle area ? ![]() Last edited by shsong21 : 12-02-2007 at 11:36 PM. |

Re: Funny Korea
Part of the problem is people that are not from the United States think they know the United States because they watch our movies, TV shows and news feeds. Those 3 things are not accurate depictions of the US. For example a Korean co-worker of mine visited the US and was disappointed that he did not see any prostitutes. He thought they would just be walking up and down the streets, just like in the movies. In the US we do not have daily gun battles in the streets, but because of 24 hour news any event that involves a gun is a huge spectacle and will fill the news reports for days. Also remember the US is a huge country with lots of people and with that there are more opportunities for bad things to happen.
The purpose of this thread is not to disrespect Korea it is to share some of the things we have discovered here that are just different than what we are used to in the US and things that give us a little chuckle. I'm sure if you went to the US you would laugh too because there are plenty of of funny things to see there as well, we are not so different. People are people everywhere you go. |

![]() Good grief you HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!? You honestly pressume to know more about American History just because some MOVIE says thats the way it is?! How naive are you? Thats like me thinking that I actually know a lot about the Korean War or Korea just because I watch M*A*S*H!! Seriously, we (as in you and I) had this conversation on here around Columbus day and I even provided you with two or three links that talked about how Columbus didn't get to the mainland US until his third or fourth try, and the guy thought he was in India. The vikings came traveling to America long before Columbus and the Native Americans were there long before that. You can't "discover" someplace new when people are already there. |

Re: Funny Korea
All Columbus found was that the world was not flat, a theory commonly held in his time. He failed miserably in trying to find a shorter route to India.
Movies almost always lie. Wikipedia is a better way to check things out. From Wikipedia: Christopher Columbus (1451 – May 20, 1506) was a navigator, colonizer, and explorer and one of the first Europeans to explore the Americas after the Vikings. Though not the first to reach the Americas from Europe, Columbus' voyages led to general European awareness of the hemisphere and the successful establishment of European cultures in the New World. It is generally believed that he was born in Genoa, although other theories exist. Also well known are his name's rendering in modern Italian as Cristoforo Colombo and in Spanish as Cristóbal Colón. Columbus' voyages across the Atlantic Ocean began a European effort at exploration and colonization of the Western Hemisphere. While history places great significance on his first voyage of 1492, he did not actually reach the South American mainland until his third voyage in 1498. Instead, he made landfall on an island in the Bahamas Archipelago that he named San Salvador while trying to find a sea route to India, hence the indigeneous inhabitants being called "Indians". Likewise, he was not the earliest European explorer to reach the Americas, and there are accounts of European transatlantic contact prior to 1492. |
