Not really. Joe, gave a ton of great example. When someone says, "What's cooking?", they are asking you, "What is going on with you?" or if in a work situation "What are you working on?"

Generally, it's only used between friends or co-workers (who are of the same of lower status as you) with whom you've developed a close working relationship. The generic Korean equivalent would be a friendly "뭐 해?"
