Talk Tips: "Misunderstandings"
You say something but the person had misunderstood (big time) and goes "WHAT DID YOU SAY?!"
만약 그쪽 잘못 알아들었다... (Did I spell that right?) Before the person starts to boil, quickly (열받기전에 빨리) start with, "No, no, no..." "That is not what I meant." "You have misunderstood me." "There has been a misunderstanding." 그리고... (다시한번) "Let me rephrase that." "What I meant to say was..." I often hear Koreans say: "You don't know what I am saying." or even "You don't know." "You don't hear me." "You hear me wrong." or even "You are wrong!" They might work, but the tone above (분위기? 말투?) may be a little rude (싸가지! ) and may make matters worse.A little message to English speakers: Give these guys a break. They're just trying their best to communicate; gotta give them a little respect for their effort. If something sounds a little weird to you, give them the benefit of the doubt. It's not their native language and believe it or not, English is a pretty difficult language. And I beg everyone...don't do that sarcastic, loud and slow English thing to them...I think some of you all know what I mean. That's really cruel (humiliating someone for their lack of knowledge in public). |
