On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest, how is AAFES doing?

I would rate AAFES a 3 compared to other department stores, but a four due to the tax advantage.

They are 2-3 maybe? What i don't like is when they order something, even if it is selling like hotcakes, they NEVER re-order. THat goes for clothes, electronics and just about everyhting in the PX.
Now lets talk about a NEX!! No better not AAFES would not know what to do agaiinst a NEX

Aafes
Interesting responses. The fact that AAFES is reaping a profit of 18 cents on a gallon of gas they sell does not bother anyone? This is contrast to the service stations in CONUS making 2 cents? AFFES pricing policy states they set their prices at an avg of CONUS on the previous month. There are a couple problems with this. The fact is AAFES does not pay tax on the gas they acquire through contract. The gas prices in CONUS includes Fed, State, and local <g> It was also proveen that the oil companies in CONUS were fleeceing the consumers. Did AAFES reap a windfall? When the prices in CONUS droped down below $1.56 this past summer they would not move below that price. It seems they have bottom line they will not move below. Therfore there appears to be some mis leading advertising at play?
How are the Government service stations able to sell gas for far less? Ahh But AAFES has free movies! Well that is all except the AF. What about the prices on their merchandise? Why are AAFES prices higher than the NEX? (Navy Exchange) I hope the Navy does not get absorbed by AAFES. Ahh! But free movies <g> Has anyone looked at the AAFES claim to save their customers 22%? It sounds like the phone company calculus from years ago. |

I only go to AAFES if i have to!! Well here in Korea i have to
But in the states Wal-Mart is the only place to go, Wal-Mart beat AAFES hands down, but ONLY on clothes and "hard" items like that. Now as for the Commissary, they even beat AAFES on ALL products that are sold at both places. Not sure about the prices at an NEX, i just know that i was absoultly LOST in the NAS JAX NEX (Naval Air Station Jacksonville) It was HUGE and they had everything. The NEX put ANY AAFES to shame. As for the gas prices, the only thing i know is that "BY" contract on post gas prices must be 5cents lower than anything off post. And to be honest i have not paid attention to gas prices since i cannot drive over here ![]()

I would give AAFES a 2. I am an old man and like music, clothes, and books that you cannot get at AAFES. I buy most of my stuff online. AAFES just carries the current styles and fad items most people are into who are much younger than me. Also I think here in Korea they take a monopolistic attitude.

Aafes
Hopefully AAFES is listening to the voice of the customer. I know they use to set up tables in the entrance and convene town hall meetings. I never really seen any changes on topics that were addressed. Will this make a difference? probably not. I also came across there revenue figures for 2005. This also included the % provided to MWR. It was dismal at best. At one time AAFES was truly supportive of the customers. I heard <g> you could buy higher end audio equip at a substantial discount. I should not complain to loudly though. In AAFES inexperience they on occasion make some egregious errors. The best deal was the Patagonia jacket for $15 The jacket retails for $125. I have had it for several years. It is the finest cold weather gear I have ever owned.
AAFES has lost control in the same way Red Cross has. To much fluff at the top and no one is paying attention. My 2 cents anyway. |

I will give AAFES a two in pricing, a three in selection and a 4 in customer service.
I am sure that mostly everyone has seen the commercials that boast AAFES policy on rounding up to the nearest nickel because it would cost the government too much money to ship pennies. What I wonder is where that extra "few cents" actually goes and how much it really is on an average. Now that I think about it the commercial says that the pennies are returned to the troops through MWR and other base incentive programs, but I have never seen the actual figures. And as many others have stated it is just as easy to find compareable prices at Wal-mart or Target. Size-wise I find many AAFES "malls" to be disappointing. Eventhough there are numerous kiosks the selection at the main stores are lacking when AAFES boasts similarities to many large department stores. I often find many of the items I would like to be out-of-stock and on backorder. Perhaps being overseas and having to wait the extra-long shipment period makes it seem worse. Finally, customer service is something that AAFES does seem to do right. Each time I have been confronted with an out-of-stock item or a purchase that I needed delivered I had little trouble accomplishing the task. |

First off AAFES is evil!
Second NEX = AAFES (AAFES tookover the Naval exchangfe in 2001) Lowprice my arse, being here in the states they never compete. Anything your looking for is on sale somewhere else and getting a price match is such a pain that it's not worth it. Overseas options are limited. Some sites have very nice exchanges, others don't. Either way, they got you. Can we say "monopoly" and don't even get me started on gas pricing. Anyways, overall I would give them a 4 on service (usually), a 2 on pricing and overall a 3. |

I give it a 2, as there pricing for the most part is poor, selection is worse, they'll get disk 1-2-4-7 of a series in and nothing else... i've given up trying to do any clothing shopping because i only ever found 1 pair of long jeans there.. and never any shoes. there prices on hard drives is $30 higher then anywhere else... they sell stuff that doesn't even work in korea... like caller ID boxs
its just flipping insane... |
