It truly is. As with any scientific studies, eventually you run into an ethical hurdle. Scientists have already developed two ways in mice that can produce embryonic stem cells while bypassing any ethical concerns. Sadly, in the case you mention, expediency was more important than waiting around for a more accepted approach to stem cell research. I suppose it's easy to say that waiting would be a more rational approach, but I'm young and healthy... I can afford to wait.
