S. Korean Police Praised for Saving Chinese

That was some scary water!

Quote:
In the early hours of Feb. 7, 2006 South Korea's Wando Maritime Police received an SOS from the Chinese freighter Century Team with a cargo of 2,717 tons, on seas three km east of Wando County in South Jeolla Province.

Perilously high surf of three to four meters was no hurdle to the South Korean patrol boat which also braced strong winds of 28 meters per second.

The Chinese fishermen abandoned their ship and they were clinging to a lifeboat about to be swallowed by the turbulent seas.

The Korean policemen unhesitatingly risked their own lives in taking all the Chinese from the boat. Yet, they did not stop at that.

Some policemen climbed onto the Chinese freighter about to be sunk in their desperate efforts to prevent capsizing and the resultant oil spill. They had to fight the mean sea for three hours. Both the Chinese fishers and their freighter were safe, finally.
Pretty brave!

Mike
