Actually, in all areas except Area 1 (2ID land), E-7 and above may have a POV. For many years it was E-6 and above. Around ten years ago or so, it dropped down to E-5 and above, and then a year or two ago, the CG decided he didn't want junior NCOs to have POVs anymore. I saw the stats for drunk driving a few years ago, and the percentage of DUIs by junior NCOs was easily the highest. So it's a case of punish them all for the transgressions of a few... Personally, I don't think 2LTs should be allowed to have POVs either because the only difference between a 2nd Louie and a private is that one went to college and the other didn't - they're pretty much on the same level as far as maturity is concerned.

I must admit though, the over-crowded parking situation on base did get slightly better after the change.

Thanks Taichan. He has 2 batteries but they won't last long. Most of the time they send them on civilian flights as he is leaving from St Louis, MO I use to stop in Hawaii but not sure if he is stopping in Seattle or LA first or how he is routed. I figure someone on here may know.

i don't think they stop in Hawaii anymore, the 777 can make it from NYC to Japan without a stop, he'll prob go either though SFO or somewhere in the middle of the country.

I am asuming STL MO? There are a couple options on the route. You should be able to find the flight number and routing for the flight on the web. I would prefer to fly Korean Air or Asiana. They quite flying military charter in Oct 2005. You may recall the Flying Tiger airlines <Bg>

My first flight to Korea:

Columbus, GA --> Atlanta, GA --> St. Louis, MO --> San Francisco, CA --> Portland, OR -> Anchorage, Alaska --> Yokota AFB, Japan --> Osan AFB, Korea - total travel time was 38 hours.

You had to wear your class A uniform back then also - talk about a case of ring around the collar!!

Taichan;

In the says Willy was talking about the government put us on the cheapest flights possible. If this included bouncing around to various airports prior to reaching the final destination they would. I was fortunate though on my first trip over. The flight was 11 hours from Travis (Oakland). There were no means of entertainment on that flight and they stacked us on top of each other. Your space was less than what the standard seating area on the KTX. I discovered almost to my demise not to use a propane lighter on Flying Tiger airlines. The cabin pressure was quiet different and turned the lighter into a blow torch. The worst mistake that is still possible today is taking a medavac flight in CONUS. You have no idea how many stops they make. I went from Oakland to an AFB in Texas in 8 hours. Considering the longest time we were on the ground was 20 minutes in LAX it was a flight I would not like to repeat.

Not anymore, they will fly you form the closest point which covers Korea. Atlanta, LA, Chicago and just a few others. The total flight time for me from Atlanta was just over 13 hrs.

As for the inprocessing time, it depends on where you are going. From the time i was in country to the time i got to my unit was 12 days including weekends.

Wow 12 days is a long time. Is that the norm? In the Stone Age they would shuttle us cave people into CC. We would wait maybe 3 days max prior to learning of your next assignment. The area is now occupied by Eighth Army G-1 (old 8th PERSCOM) The buildings are still there. I learned to take an in country leave prior to reporting and avoided spending anymore then 1 day in CC. There was also some serious money exchanged in this replacement center.
