Old Memory
I was reading through the Articles here in the forum and came upon this one by USinKorea. It reminded me of an incident that happened when I was stationed at Camp Essayons with an 8 inch Artillery Unit.
This was my 2nd tour in Korea and I had just arrived at the unit. My room mate was taking me to the Village to meet his wife. As we were walking 2 young ladies passed us and I heard one of them say 미국 오랑캐 (me gook ya min nee) I knew part was American but did not know what the 2nd part ment. We asked his wife and she got a little angry and asked where we heard such a word. I thought it was kind of funny being called an American Barbarian. So in the spirit of being humorious I had a Artillery red ball cap embossed with 미국 오랑캐. Most of the clubs I went to found it funny as they knew me. I gave it to my XO when I left because he new the story and always found it funny but when he went to the officers club with it on and the commander found out what it ment, he got in a little trouble. Wish I knew what happened to that hat. ![]() |
