I guess if you work in Seoul it is not a fun city. The traffic is crazy!

I love Seoul, but I am just a visitor and I always go to Seoul by train or bus. I have always driven a bus when driving to Seoul and the bus lane is great.

Shsong21, maybe you need a scooter. They are great when you live in a big city.

Mike

Yeah, Seoul makes it no fun to own a vehicle. You can never say, "I'm going out for a drive"...you'll just sit there mainly sitting in traffic and stressing out. I miss the empty country roads in the states.

One of the biggest reasons why I can never memorize directions in Seoul is because I concentrate more on worrying of cars cutting me off and getting too close rather than anything else. Plus, there's always construction going on, detours, and new signs posted everywhere.

I take public transportation whenever I can; never take my car out if I don't have to.

I have lived the majority of my life in southern California. For me, a car had always been an integral part of my life. However, when my wife and I moved here, we decided to go without cars. Because of the great mass transportation here, we have saved a lot of money and avoided a lot of headaches.

shsong21, you realize it's this attitude which is killing the South Korean motorways. It creates so much pollution unnecessarily and raises fuel prices. If everyone utilized the mass transit system, which is essential to a major metropolis like Seoul, even 50 percent of the time rather than using their private vehicles, imagine the savings in time, pollution and sanity you'd have in Seoul. Not to mention, think of all the congestion that would be alleviated on the roads. You too could have a pleasant afternoon drive if people used a little common sense and gave up this very American ideal that it is necessary to have your very own vehicle to control. In a place like Seoul, who really needs a car? It costs more than a taxi or a subway just to PARK the dang thing in most places for an 8 hour work day, much less the fuel costs. Silly bandwagoneers.

The first time I went to look for my Korean school in Kangnam I was lost and terrified someone would run me over. I wasn't driving and I'm glad I wasn't. Yes, I agree. It's better to go without cars whenever you can in Korea. How about the traffic during Chusok or the Lunar New Year!? It's best to leave at 4 am to get anywhere.

Haha! Hey shsong21, my boyfriend sells motorcycles and scooters. Let me know if you're serious about buying one. I guess they don't exactly take away from the pollution problem, but using them makes it much faster to get around the traffic.
