KAL Gets World No.1 In-Flight Meal Award Again

Looks like the rest of the world should learn from KAL. I just flew last week with American Airlines and I had to spend $5 on a terrible sandwich.

Quote:
Korean Air received the prestigious `Mercury Award' from the International Flight Catering Association (IFCA) on March 10, 2006 for the development and service implementation of Bibim Noodles (Spicy Korean Noodles), one of Korea's finest traditional dishes, as an in-flight meal. The carrier was awarded the Gold Prize in the Food and Beverage category.

This is the second time that Korean Air has won the Mercury Award. The first was in 1998 for the development and service implementation of bibimbap, an assorted vegetable and rice mixture, - as an in-flight meal to its economy class.

The winning entry for the Food and Beverage category, Bibim Noodles, is the latest and most successful development from the Korean Air Catering Center. The spicy noodles and vegetable mix were adopted into the in-flight menu as one the second meal options on long-haul flights after a long period of research and development to ensure that the meal remained fresh and tasty, even during long flights. The Bibim Noodles earned the most points for its quality, innovation and practicality.

Really? Hmm...I must be spoiled because I've flew in KAL a majority of my life. With the exception of Bibimbap, I thought most of the food was just mediocre. Oh well...I don't expect much from economy class meals...they're like TV dinners to me.
However, I thought Cathay Pacific food was pretty good...but it's been 8 years since I flew with them, so who knows how good or bad they are now?

I agree with the US carriers taking lessons from KAL. The differences between them is like day and night. On a recent flight on KAL switching to an American carrier, was shock and awe. They wonder why the American carriers are having financial difficulties.

I agree totally with Hiker. Whenever I go to the US I try to take a foreign carrier. Unless you fly business or first class US carriers treat you like a number and the service is poor. I have no sympathy for them loosing money.
