Re: Soju bowl
Is that the same thing as Jungle Juice.
1 bottle of soju, 1 bottle of silvac, 1 bottle of oscar or portaju add non acholic stuff to taste.

Re: Soju bowl
Just go to one of the local store in the ville and look for the 1 liter bottle of soju that has the green lable. 3000 won or so? Pour it in a bowl with ice add juice of your choice add 20-30 straws and drink until you can't stand.
Warning, drinking a BOWL you will not know you cannot stand until you try to stand up. Ask my wife............. ![]()

Re: Soju bowl
Ah the deadly Ammo Bowl!
I would say the Ammo Bowl is not new amateurs. I have sen too many new folks to Korea get suckered into drinking an entire Ammo Bowl. In Itaewon they have the Soju Kettles which are easier to drink, but have the same affect. Soju is really not that strong. If mixed correctly you can't taste it and that is when you get into troube because like Chuck says it creeps up on you!

Re: Soju bowl
The perfect opportunity to disspell the soju rumor. For those of you that don't know already...soju IS regulated for alcohol content. You will undoubtedly hear GIs talking about how one night they drank 5 drinks and barely felt it and the next weekend they drank 2 and were boots up. They blame it on the government "not regulating" the soju production. Umm...excuse me...but has anyone checked out the whole VOIP thing in the last several months? The government has no problem regulating things. So you are asking, "Okay smartass, what's the deal?"
Take a look at the cap on the bottle. Sometimes on top, sometimes on the side. You will see a number there (in English even) anywhere from about 21% to about 35% Turn that number into proof and guess what...even the strongest soju that is typically available around the bases (and that GIs would buy...only about 70 proof...which is less alcohol by volume than a shot of Jim Beam which is 80 proof.) So, why do GIs get so screwed up? Here's another no brainer for you...YOU CAN'T TASTE THE ALCOHOL... So the next time your foolish friend decides he is going to take on an ammo bowl by himself, you might want to ask the lady behind the bar what type of soju they are using and get a look at the number. You might save yourself from having to carry his stupid ass back to the dormitory. Am I sounding harsh tonight or what?? ![]() |

Re: Soju bowl
I've never tried this Soju bowl thingy..however when I first got here, my landlord invited us out to dinner and I tried the soju..*YUKK!" I knew it was fairly potent just by smelling the stuff. I suppose cutting it with juice or something more tasty would definitely be an improvement. I guess it's an acquired taste..which unfortunately I don't have. I'll stick to my white wines thank you very much. Another funny thing about the soju..and I've noticed it when I see the Korean people drink it..especially alot of it..their faces get beet red almost
