I will be updating this post and then transfering it to the Articles section in the coming days (weeks) as I have time to work on it.
But, I wanted to mention it early so people can set aside time on in their schedule if they are in Korea. The big ceremony to honor the spirits of the Chosun Dynasty royal ancestors iis held on the first Sunday of May each year. It is well worth seeing, but it can be a little crowded. I have some video of it, if I can find it, and I'll try to upload it and post a link here. Here is the tourism site. Here is the UNESCO world heritage site info. There are one or two virtual tours you can make via links on that site. I haven't checked out the sites yet, because I need to use a faster connection, but if I think my many pictures of the grounds are worth uploading, I'll put some up here. The place is in Seoul, and it is a nice stroll or place to relax if you are tired of the closed in nature of the city. Kyongbok palace has more to see, but it has less leisure space or grass and natural beauty than Chongmyo/Jongmyo - or so I think. Which is why a lot of older Koreans hang out there. Also, Chongmyo is right beside the other main palace complex besides Kyongbok, though I forget its name. |
