[IMAGE] Korean stabs himself to protest Japan

If you don't think Koreans are passionate about their land, then think again!

WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGE

I will not post the image here, but I will link to it. I am warning you now, don't view the image if you have a weak stomach. Here is the caption from Yahoo News.

Quote:
An anti-Japan protester, Yang Bong-ho, stabs himself in the stomach with a kinfe to commite suicide demanding Japan abandon a plan to conduct a maritime survey near disputed islets, at a park in Seoul, Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Yang's condition was unknown after being taken to hospital.

I have also viewed images of Koreans gutting themselves in protest. Sometimes Nationalism can be a disease!

I hope i do not offend anyone, but he needs to try a little harder.

Sorry, i DO understand about being taken from your land but come on......

Just like a person trying to kill himself. If you don't do it right then your not doing it right, KEEP trying as far as i'm concerned. When you get it right i'll be happy. Then we won't have to worry about you anymore.

DISCLAIMER!!!!!

These are my thought's and MY thought only.

Shsong21,

I can understand South Korea's historical anger towards the Japanese. The occupation lasted over 35 years and was brutal.

I would say that hatred and anger can only harm South Korea. Having a hatred for any one race is unhealthy. Putting a knife in your stomach because the Japanese were planning to send a few research ships is simply crazy.

From what I gather the islands are in fact South Koreas. From what I can also tell the islands are worthless and no one lives on them. They aren't even islands but inlets. This is a political stunt by Roh and the Japanese. The South Korean elections are coming up soon and Roh is playing the Anti-Japanese card. I wouldn't be surprised if he had the South Korean baseball team over for a photo op since they beat Japan twice.

I don't think those islands are totally worthless and a simple matter of the pride of the Korean people. I hear those territories are excellent fishing grounds and by giving up those islands to the Japanese, they're giving up a lot of fish and other sea creatures. Plus, a lot of ownership of the sea comes with it all, too.

Anyway, that gut-slashing suicide attempt was just retarded, IMO. Plus, it seems so..."Japanese-style". He may as well had a buddy standing next to him with a sword ready to chop his head off.

Um, is it just me, or is that knife upside down? I think that if I were to stupidly stab myself in the gut, I'd automatically hold the knife right side up....

Do you think it matters? It's a knife in your gut.....up or down it's going to do damage.

No, it doesn't matter...it just made me curious... I was wondering if there could be some rationale for it--if it caused more damage if you pulled up rather than pushed down (if you were intent on literally spilling your guts) or something like that.

Didn't mean to sound like Miss Ultra-Sensitive. My curiosity often lands me in trouble.
