Everytime I hear more about the story on the news I can't help but think, "What on Earth is the big deal about a bunch of tiny islands?". But, then I try to think of how I would feel if I were Korean and also that I don't really know all the facts about why Japan wants to do this research.

Shsong21, I believe that these islands are rightfully Korea's, but why stab yourself in the stomach? What is hurting yourself going to do to change things? Unless the Japanese government is going to feel guilty about that act or something. So, does anyone know the guy's condition now?

I'm chinese, and i know there are countless arguement between the japs and chinese on the right of islands as well. Often hisotric records are inconsistent and now it's basically a political bargaining on who should take what. God bless the man for being so patriotic though, wish i see more patriotic chinese like that. Rather than some dumbass uni student ranting on "f*** japan* blah blah but too scared to join the army if there's a war. *sigh*

I see nothing wrong with patriotism, but I still don't think that killing/stabbing yourself is a useful way to solve the problem of who the islands belong to. Not that I have any useful suggestions for how to solve that problem, but I don't see how hurting yourself would work.
