Anyone been to Jeju Island?
Jeju island seems to be a great vacation spot. I have heard it is the Vegas of Korea. Any truth to that?

Yes- We will let him fix it later on...
I've been to Cheju- it is the Florida of Korea. A small island. Cute little bananas and tangerines and oranges. Seafood, tourism, a nice city and hotels, a volcano, great pheasant hunting, beautiful coast line in some areas. Something for everyone. It can be a nice tour.
I went for the Pheasant hunting. The best in the world. Japanese tourists go there a lot. If I wanted to tour, I'd go to Tokyo or Taipei or Hong Kong. Singapore was nice, too. Those are tours! I am going to Shanghai soon. |

If you're adventuresome, drive your car down to Mokpo, put it on the ferry, and travel back and forth to Jeju via that route.
The ferry out of Mokpo is very large, so you can hardly even tell you're riding on a ship when you're out to sea. The cost is very reasonable and it has nice restaurants and even a sauna. Main advantage: when you get there - you don't have to pay through the nose to get around, and you don't have to travel with a tour group. I don't know if this is still the case, but even after the rappel school closed, it's my understanding that the lodging facilities at McNabb Training Center were to remain open for USFK personnel to stay at. They aren't fancy - but at a fraction of the cost of a hotel room - they're a great deal. MWR would be the ones to ask. |

Camp McNabb closed
I heard they have closed down Camp McNabb. But, you're right about the Mokpo car ferry being a good alternative to flying to Cheju. For my money, Hongdo is a much prettier, though somewhat less developed, island which is also accessible from Mokpo. If you really want to see one of the most beautiful spots in Korea, try Hongdo.

You're absolutely correct about Hongdo - and you can catch the ferry from there as well. HOWEVER, it's a much smaller port, hence the large ferry boats cannot go there. So if you put your car on a ferry there - be ready to take the ride of your life (read: you'll see more people puking their guts out than you would see at a drink 'til you puke college keg party) and the smaller ferry boats don't have the nice facilities. In fact, they don't have any facilities, comparatively speaking. If you want to hit both places, I'd recommend driving down to Hong-do for a few days - and then driving back up to Mokpo and taking the ferry to Jeju. |
