Re: Korea: Land of the Bland
You're in their country. They don't have to learn your language...try learning theirs.

Re: Korea: Land of the Bland
Captain,
You are a typical foreigner in Korea. Unopen to change or new things. I came here with an open mind and I've had so many good times and met lots of really cool Korean people. I studied the language and I can communicate decently with Koreans. I've had 95 percent good experiences with Koreans. You are just a sh*thead that thinks he's a scholar but you're really just a small-minded country boy. Korea will smile as you leave.......... |

Re: Korea: Land of the Bland
Captain America you are starting to sound like another ESL teacher, which you also said you did in other thread.
Take your insults somewhere else. You are the one who decided to go to Korea. They treated you like shit? I dont remember Asians in the states being treated well either. |

Re: Korea: Land of the Bland
You are one very bitter ESL teacher. I've heard horror stories of teachers getting ****ed over but you must of gotten it hard.
My experiences have been amazing. Once you get into some social circles they make you feel right at home. Leave Canada out of this. You stated in another thread that you had a job in Korea teaching english. |

Re: Korea: Land of the Bland
Korea for non-Koreans has always been, IMHO, a love it ir hate it place with little in between. My experience has been the longer a person stays the more they like it. Captain America is entitled to the hate it view just as those of us who have spent a substantial time of our lives there are entitled to ours. I'm not sure about the 'bland' label though, I've been to much 'blander' places in the world. Korea ,IMHO, is far from bland, strange to the outsider and hard to get used to for some maybe, but bland? All big cities suck after awhile, my best times in the ROK were spent with Korean and American friends going camping or visiting the country side, away from big cities. It takes time and I can fully understand how someone with limited time who has primariliy been in Seoul or another large city might not have had a very enjoyable experience. cheers.

performance: I said I am not a teacher...Not sure were you saw this post unless someone has been editing my postings again...
Turk: I don't consider Seoul a 'big city'...in fact it seems more like the suburbs to me! I find it laughable that people think Seoul is some kind of big metropolis. |

Re: Korea: Land of the Bland
Big city as I would define it is by population density and all the typical downsides of living in such a place as opposed to being in more wide open spaces with fewer human beings per square mile. In other words, in my experience, quality of life and human relations tend to be of a higher quality in a slower paced country setting as opposed to the hustle and bustle of large city life. There are of course big cities, with better infrastructure, building codes and design but they all, share the problems that come with too many people in too small a space. Some are planned better than others due to the ravages of past wars etc...
