One thing I noticed today that I found unbelievable was how these rich Korean housewives (NOT talking about soldiers' wives) drive these giant, full size BMW's, Mercedes, and SUV's and always make it home in one piece. I mean, flat out, they are terrible drivers that run over curves, can't see over the dash, and the cars jerk when they step on the brake. I see them in the basement parking lots taking about ten minutes to reverse park into a space. But they make it through the day without problems!
I asked this to my Korean co-worker and he jokes that no one out there dares to hit these expensive cars because they can't afford to pay for the parts to fix them. Maybe he was telling the truth. |

I have never been scared of the drivers in Korea while they are moving. Most Koreans are pretty skilled at driving. Yes, they hardly ever follow traffic laws like stopping at red lights and stop signs, but have you seen how close the taxi drivers come to the cars?
What drives me crazy are the way Koreans park and stop in the middle of the road. I have seen these house wives in SUVs simply stop in the middle of a busy road to get out and use the ATM! What almost gets me killed every morning are Koreans parking in no parking areas like in blind spots near intersections. Many times I have to pull out into a road hoping there are no other cars coming. There is a Korean that parks at the top of my hill that drives me crazy every morning! Mike

I just realized another unbelievable thing...
You ever notice how unsanitary many restaurants in Korea are? They violate all health codes, too. Yet you hardly hear of places that are shut down from code violations nor do you hear of many places getting sued for filthy foods making people sick. And this leads to my other amazement of how Koreans don't really sue one another or companies like Americans do. Maybe it's because this land is so small. I remember when a woman sued McDonald's for spilling coffee on her own son and burning him. She blamed McDonald's for not having a warning label on the coffee cup. Well, she's a millionaire now. I guess if you do that here the judge will literally say, "You're the idiot who spilled the coffee on your own kid. Maybe we should sue you for not having a warning label tattooed on your forehead!" |

I don't understand

And they never seem to discipline their kids - like when they've been pestering you for the last 20 minutes in the salon. |

As for discipline...I never really got that either. But, again a theory, I think those types who do not discipline their kids are the types who have a full-time nanny or a grandparent around who always spoils the kid rotten. So, the parent just keeps in mind that he or she only needs to endure it for 20 minutes and the problems are passed over when they get home. It seems they'd rather endure the 20-minute pestering rather than be embarrassed in public of how he/she has no control over their children. |
