Yeah, his wife is the one who is asking for money. I'll bet she will be able to get whatever he has through US courts later on. Of course he probably doesn't or won't have anything but a silver tongue and a General Discharge after this. I'm not clear who "Held" him, but I believe I read the US did. I feel certain they will turn him over to Korean authorities as soon as they can discharge him.

This whole thing is
. Sure adultry is wrong but last I checked we weren't riding horses and wearing plate mail armor... Korea needs to step into the 21st century.Last edited by mike : 01-15-2006 at 04:13 AM. |

Adultry can get you jail time under the USMJ as well. Even if he makes it through the Korean court, the DoD can still get a hold of him.

Don't mean to jack this thread, but in this day and age with so many technicalities to the last letter, how is 'adultery' defined and/or determined?
Is it as long as you don't have sex, you're not cheating? I ask this because I know (and seen) many Koreans...no, many people cheating on their spouses like it's a norm. Once I had asked if they worried about going to jail since its illegal...ended up being laughed at by the group like I had asked a funny and obvious question. I was confused; and just said to myself, "Alrighty then." |

There has always been the saying, "what goes TDY stays TDY." This was part of the Air Force culture and many instances of adultry and unprofessional relationships went unchecked. I know the new Air Force Chief of Staff is trying hard to change this as part of the Air Force culture.

I don't know...maybe it's just the environment I'm in, but as I get to know a lot of people around, personally or on a deeper level, it all seems that there's this other level of reality where everyone cheats, everyone knows, even supports,...its just weird. And I'd just thought I'd point out, it's not just a Korean thing. It happens in both cultures in different forms. |

I predict Sgt. Han will get discharged for the convenience of the government and turned over to the Korean court system. It is generally a tough sell to convict an enlisted man on a morals charge. That is the easy way out for the U.S. He will go down in history as an embarrassment to his birth country and his adopted country. Another American who makes us all look bad. He will lose maximum face !
Whether or not you or I believe that Adultery is worthy of judicial punishment is a subject of another thread. Let's call it "Morals and Mores of Civilized Societies." Look for the new thread after my initial post on THE LOUNGE. |

I bet he would have avoided jail time if he had paid up and given the money to the woman. No money, jail time.
