It doesn't matter. That many of Americans under 20 don't know that West Virginia exists, and that the Capitol is not Richmond. The only thing that matters is that those over 21 who can vote and have government responsibilities are intent on maintaining good relationships with China, Japan and, hopefully the U.S. Then the existence of North Korea still won't matter.

Sunshine Policy
The youth are not informed of the big bad wolf from the north bc this is part of the Sunshine policy. They only wish for one country. There is nothing wrong with this except the people in the north have continious daily feeds that there is only one way "The Leader;s" way. I am sure the Big Business would really like to get in there to expolit the potential labor force awaiting. There were 3 Asian countries they were focused on China, Vietnam, and nK. Well let's see They are in China, and Vietnam. I do not see factories opening in nK in the very near future. I am sure the leader inthe north would like to see a substantial financial investment in his country. That is as long as he has control.

Mr. Joe,
I would say Americans don't have to worry about West Virginia invading them. I think hiker is correct. The Sunshine policy makes the Korean you even more unaware of the threat. If the U.S. or anyone says something bad about North Korea, the South Korean governent is the first to defend North Korea. They even react faster than North Korea! Remember the Korean LT that released the classified war plans on the internet? What was the South Korean governments reaction? Many South Korean lawmakers were "shocked" that the U.S. had war plans! And that plans like this only upset North Korea. Yes folks it is time! It is time for another baby seal photo. ![]()

Sunshine Policy
Does anyone remember when protestors burned a nK flag? What was the response from the Korean gov? How about the US flag? The appeasement process is intended to reconcile the two countries for the purpose of exploiting the cheap labor in the north. It is not personal, rather business. Anyone in living in Korea can easily see the foreigners from other countries who ae stuggling to survive. They do the jobs they refer to as the 3 D's (Dirty, Difficult, and Dangerous).
BTW; You really do not hear the U.S. complaining about the human trafficking of these individuals. We also seem to loose site of the reason why we were in Hati does CBI-parity" or "NAFTA-parity ring any truth? The garment industry had established operations there. They had large scale factories in Florida that were cutting the patterns from the fabric. They were sending the fabric for assembly where they had the cheapest labor and the quickest turn around. What better place then the Carribean. If you enjoy reading and interested in learning more on contemporary history I highly recommend Dan Oberdorf's "The Two Korea's". I would also recommend The Pentagon's New Map: "War and Peace in the Twenty-first Century" Tom Barnett. Robert Kaplan's The Coming Anarchy was also good. Lest we loose focus on what is important <g> |

Mike:The odds of West Virginia seceding and attacking the U.S. are about the same as North Korea attacking the South!
Valhalla: Look it up! (hint-it begins with a capital letter...) Hiker: Thanks for the book list! I agree that business motivates most all actions. The U.S. Military is here doing the 3 D's also, and, officially, "In the best interest of the United States." We apparently need a jumping off place (Air Base) in the Northern Pacific. Is protecting South Korea from a re-initiation of a war that never ended a good enough reason to be here? I do not know why we need to be in both Japan and Korea. Maybe in case one of them asks us to leave? Japan used to get very upset when our Nuclear powered subs came in to port. Both countries "allow" us to stay; and they will, as long as it is "In their best interest." If any country is looking for cheap labor nK seem like a deal, as long as you don't mind supporting communists. The South already is using that labor in a factory in the DMZ. Wonder how that will work out? Last edited by Mr. Joe : 01-16-2006 at 09:47 AM. Reason: sp. |
