Why do you teach in Korea?

This is for the English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers on the board. Why do you teach in Korea? I have met a lot of teachers and many have said because of the money and that it is cheap to live in Korea. Many of the ESL teachers seem to enjoy their job.

Mike

I FIRST ARRIVED HERE IN 1996 AND STAYED FOR 2 1/2 YEARS. I CAME FOR THE MONEY AND I MADE A LOT OF IT. WHEN IMF (THE ECONOMY WENT INTO THE DUMPER) CAME, MY INCOME WAS CUT IN HALF. NOT SO GOOD ANYMORE. I LEFT AND TOOK A KOREAN GIRL HOME WITH ME. AFTER 5 YEARS IN THE U.S., AND A COUPLE OF CRAPPY JOBS, WE DECIDED TO COME BACK TO KOREA. I ENJOY IT MUCH BETTER THIS TIME. THE TECHNILOGICAL ADVANCES ARE GREAT, MY JOB IS GREAT, MY FREE APARTMENT IS GREAT, AND MY WIFE IS HAPPY TO BE CLOSE TO HER FAMILY. I WILL BE HERE ANOTHER 3 OR 4 YEARS....

It was never my main job, but I did teach for a while back in my late teens to early 20's. It was for the money and the girls.

It was sure a good life then...young, getting paid about 30,000 won/hr (almost $45 back then) by 3-4 college girls at a time a few times a week...and on the weekends those girls and their friends take you out clubbing... I think that's how I learned most of my Korean, in fact.
