Train now links Gimpo and Incheon airports

I was riding the subway the other day and noticed that the map of the subway system was changed and now connected to Incheon airport from Gimpo airport. From this article it looks like like it opened on March 23rd. My mom is going home tomorrow and we are taking the bus to the airport but we are going to do an experiment and try to take the train home. I'll let you know how it goes.

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/ht...702140021.html

The 37.6km line from Gimpo Airport to Incheon International Airport is the first segment of the two-phase construction project of the country’s first private railroad. The other line connecting the Incheon airport and Seoul Station is expected to be completed by December 2009. The railway is scheduled to begin operations March 23, some six years after construction began in April 2001.
Two services will be offered -- standard and express. The standard service will operate at 15 minute intervals and stop at all 10 stations along the route, while the express train will run every hour without stops. The total travel time from Gimpo to Incheon will be 33 minutes for standard trains and 28 minutes for express trains, a little shorter than the 35 to 45 minutes it takes by airport limousine bus.
The standard trains are similar to subway carriages with two long benches facing each other, while express trains have two lines of double benches. There are no doors separating train compartments, making the end of the train visible when it runs on a straight line. The fare for standard trains will start from W1,000 for the basic route and add W80 every kilometer, costing around W3,100 for the entire route. The express train fare will be set at around W7,900, compared to W4,500 for the airport limousine bus.

Cool Re: Train now links Gimpo and Incheon airports

Hope mom enjoyed her short visit-She will certainly have a lot to talk about back in the land of the big PX!

Sorry I didn't get to meet her! Tell us about how easy it was to get to the private train at Incheon Airport, and also ease of connections to the regular subway, any line transfers necessary to get home, etc.
(I'm betting it is fun, but longer and costlier than the limousine bus.)

Re: Train now links Gimpo and Incheon airports

Finding the train was easy, you just follow the signs that say Airport Railroad. It's on floor B1. It cost 3100 won and took 33 minutes to go to Gimpo from Incheon where we easily transferred over to line 5. I looked at the time table and if I remember correctly a train runs every 12 minutes. You can use the bus/subway cards to pay just like the regular subway. Once you leave the AREX train you scan your card or ticket and follow the signs that lead you to line 5 where you have to pay again to get onto the subway.

What are those extra stops on the left side of Gimpo in that picture?

That's part of the line that isn't finished yet. It's supposed to eventually connect to Seoul Station in 2009.
