Cool Re: USFK requiring pet microchips

There you are- your pet is in the Army now!
Of course it cannot be required. (You could send the animal back.) But if it stays, you pay. Actually it is a good idea. An Army Priest from Camp Sears, some years ago, had his English Bulldog "Dognapped" and held for $250.00 ransome! That will be less likely now. But if you own a large muscular dog, the chip may disappear, along with the dog; something akin to the "Fried Green Tomatoes" movie.
Someone may find it in their barbecue sauce!

If you think your privacy rights are being violated,-well, just wait a while and your children will get a chip, too. The mark of the beast is no joke. You may someday get a chip, and you will no longer need a credit card or ID card.

Re: USFK requiring pet microchips

I was informed hat it was mandatory to have my big dopey dobermann chipped before I could even have him registered on post at Ft Rucker ,I think its a good thing , at least if the dog/animal gets out the owners can be traced thru the chip.

Re: USFK requiring pet microchips

My English Bulldog isn't here but we got him microchipped a couple of years ago. $20 dollars isn't a bad price and it provides some peace of mind.

I was reading in the policy letter that they hope microchipping will reduce pet abandonment when soldiers PCS. Is pet abandonment that big of a problem here? What are they going to do if they find pet who was abandoned and the owner is already out of the country?

I think it is a huge problem everywhere in the military. I know at Ft. Rucker the vet down town was always full and they also put to sleep alot of animals.
