Not allowed to have cars question.

I was just wondering if the car restrictions for soldiers under E7 is just a 2ID rule? Does this also apply to the Air Force or anyone else not in 2ID?

Re: Not allowed to have cars question.

It's not a 2ID thing, unfortunately.. the same rule applies to Air Force, as well.

As with everything in USFK, we are being punished for something that was done by someone who is long gone....

Punishment may be a hard word but..........

The rules we have here in USFK would never happen anywhere else.......

Re: Not allowed to have cars question.

Actually, Area I (basically meaning 2ID-land) has different rules than the other areas in Korea. Basically, the only active duty people allowed to drive vehicles in Area I are Bn Cdr and higher & CSMs. Notice I said "to drive vehicles" and not "to have a vehicle (period)." Lots of people in 2ID have family living in Yongsan and are authorized to have a POV. They are not, however, allowed to drive their POVs around Area I.

Of course, there are exceptions to policy, and in fact, the rule isn't enforced that strictly. My family was in Yongsan while I was stationed in 2ID, and occasionally I brought my car up to help someone move or to use it to attend a meeting at another camp (when I knew getting other transportation would be difficult).

If you are command sponsored and have an exception to policy allowing your family to live in Area I, you may of course, have your POV in Area I. Up until 7-8 years ago, contractors were not allowed to have POVs in Area I, but that rule was changed. Civil servants in the grade GS9 (or is it 7?) and above who are assigned to Area I may have POVs.

Suffice it to say, there are lots of POVs in Area I.
