A Question for all you OPSEC Gurus out there...

... specifically, those in the know about OPSEC as it pertains to posting pictures of aircraft on the internet.

In a thread on another board I'm on, the wife of a crew chief (an A1C, no less, go figure) decided that she wanted to post pictures that she'd made on the flightline..most were pretty innocuous, pictures of her husband , son and daughter, near the plane canopy, but no distinguishing marks, so you really couldn't even tell anything about the plane at all.

-HOWEVER-... being as her hubby is an assistant crew chief, and she thinks it's the utter coolness that he gets his name on the plane, she decided to take -and post on the internet- some pictures of the plane that show the particular panel where his name is painted.. again, not that big a deal... except that his name is painted right below the unit insignia, so in one fell swoop, anyone who happens onto those pictures on the internet gets the unit's name, insignia, and the name of one of the guys in it.

Is it just me or does that sound like a bad idea?

Dee

Sounds bad, and she may be placing herself at risk. Depending on where he goes, he may be a target of extortion: screw up your airplane maintenance or your wife gets it. Our enemies around the world, socialist and Islamic terrorist, are more sophisticated than we think sometimes. Anything you put out to the public, particularly on the web, is also put out to Pyongyang, Beijing, Tehran, Damascus, Caracas, Havana, etc., and all those guys are willing to work together against us.
