Camp Red Cloud
Is there a subway stop near Cp. Red Cloud? I was wondering how I can get there other than the bus that goes between the bases.

Re: Camp Red Cloud
You can get to Uijeonbu on Line # 1 , from the stop you may have ot take taxi .You can pick up line 1 at Seoul Station or Ichon right outside Yongsan gate 17
Hope this helps |

Re: Camp Red Cloud
I was at CRC all week, and yes Uijeongbu station is not that far away. Maybe 2500 won? I was staying at a hotel right near the train station too, not too bad actually!
You will want to take exit 2 out of the station, there are always taxis at the bottom of the steps... and like 18 Kimbap places within a few hundred feet of there too... LOL |

Re: Camp Red Cloud
Oh.... there is a point in that subway trip that you might have to change trains. I forget the name of that stop, but you will know it if you need to switch. Just make sure you get on the train that says it is going to Soyosan.

Thank you, I have been to Uijeongbu when I was going to Casey. I didn't realize that CRC was that close.

Re: To Camp Red Cloud
Perhaps someone who travels to and from CRC regularly by subway can give us more "What if's" ?
For example: There are two Uijeongbu stops. Uijeongbu Station and the next is Uijeongbu bukbu (north). Both are in Uijongbu, within about a mile of Camp Red Cloud. Is there any advantage in taxi fare or ease of traffic access to CRC by choosing either one of these? I'm guessing the main station is a little closer. I have been on the run from Osan to Seoul, and twice have had to change trains in the middle as I was learning the ropes. It was because I was not choosing the train that went from Seoul to Cheonan, or from Shin Jang Ri that said Seoul Station. I had to change at Geumjeong. Once there was a 20minute wait. I was like SSNAPIER at that time, I would jump on any bus or train going in my direction and if it stopped, would explore the area. So know that if you make a mistake, the world will not end. The subway directions on how to change lines are sometimes confusing, and often a long twisted walk or escalator ride. Leave time for exploring the little shops in some subway stations! Maybe someone could start a forum on best subway shopping! |

Re: Camp Red Cloud
Take the subway to Uijongbu Station. At Uijongbu Bukbu station it is harder to find cabs. At Uijongbu Station there is always plenty of cabs. When you get off the train and walk up the stairs to the main lobby take the exit to your right. This will take you to the side of the station where the cab ride to CRC is the shortest. However, be warned that many of the cab drivers at Uijongbu station are dishonest and regularly try to rip off GIs. The ride to CRC should cost about 2000-2500 won, but some cab drivers won't run the meter and than when you pull up to CRC they will ask for five dollars or more. I had a cab driver one time demand $10 bucks from me. Don't pay them if they do this.
Another way to the camp is by taking a bus. Take the exit to your left to use the bus. This exit brings you to the down town area. Cross the street and look for the bus stop. Get on the number two bus. This bus route stops at a station right in front of CRC and is a short bus ride. Hopefully this helps. |

Re: Camp Red Cloud
Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Uijongbu to Osan?

I'd allow 2 1/2 to 3 hours on a weekday on the subway. Maybe you could get a fast train and do better. The fast trains have restrooms. I have never tried the train. I could drive it in less than 2 hours in normal everyday traffic, if there are no accidents to jam up traffic. I might suggest taking the Post buses. Less hassle. Cheaper than driving and paying tolls. Scheduled times are accurate, except on Korean holidays.

Not very crowded. You get to sit. And you don't have to hassle with changing trains, waiting on the platform, and finding your way from the train station to the base after you've arrived. |
