Published: Tue, 08 May 2007 09:36:54 +0000

Is it just me or did these guys get off really light:

As long as you show remorse - sincere is always best - but even a luke warm expression of remorse goes a long way by American standards... you can significantly reduce your sentence in most cases. On top of that, if you pay compensation to the victim (usually referred to as 보상금) before going to court, you can often get off scott free - with no record at all.

Look at Kenneth Markle - he brutally murdered a woman and 13 years later he's a free man. If he committed that crime in America, he'd be in the clink for at least twice that long - maybe for the rest of his life.

I say they got off light compared to other sentences I've seen for similiar incidents. These guys brutally attacked this cab driver and received no jail time and a light fine. They must have had a good lawyer and the cab driver may have received a big settlement.
