Ferry to Japan
Has anyone ever taken the ferry from Busan to Japan? How much did the ferry ticket and train tickets cost? Was it a good time?
Thanks for the advice? Brad |

Re: Ferry to Japan
I took the ferry but I didn't pay for the tickets so I don't know how much they cost. I thought it felt like I was on a airplane. The seating inside the cabin is set up like a plane and they even showed a movie. The boat doesn't actually sit in the water and float along. It coasts along really really fast on top of the water, so it was a pretty smooth ride.

My friend and his wife did the Airfoil ferry to Japan during the NEO exercise.
He said it was nice, and about 3 hours I think. After arriving in Sasebo, I believe, they went to MCAS Iwakuni and stayed a day or two. I was unable to find him for further info today. Much cheaper (free) to take a hop from Osan to Yokota or any stop in Japan, then train to the Naija Hotel, or wherever. Of course you need to find out when a large plane is due out, etc. coming back is harder. I take one (1) bag. Last time I got a small plane in to a Navy Base in Japan, which I could not have gotten with 2 bags. Check out the military hotels. Rooms at Yokota AB are same as Osan, About $28. Don't go anywhere until school starts, as students coming back have priority. I have a suggestion- there is a lighthouse out in the bay below Pusan that has a big room to rent out to honeymooners or anyone, actually. I'll try to find out their site . |

Re: Ferry to Japan
I was thinking it was about 3 hours but my memory is fuzzy. The ferry went to Fukuoka. After that, we took a bus to Iwakuni.

Re: Ferry to Japan
Does anyone know an answer to the cost of this ferry yet?
Is this a daily ferry, and what times does it operate? |

Re: Ferry to Japan
From what I can tell, it is a daily ferry. Space-A isn't an option since we have a friend from the states that will be traveling with us and He isn't military anymore.
Thanks for the info, keep it coming. I'd love to know the cost and where to get tickets from, the base travel agency says they don't know |

Re: Ferry to Japan
It still would be nice to find out what time the ferries leave port in ROK and Japan, and how much it is.
Does the Ferry service have a website? |

Re: Ferry to Japan
I have taken the ferry a few times from Pusan. There are three ferries. The one mentioned above is a hovercraft that takes three hours and goes to Fukuoka. The one I took was Pukwan Ferry. It leaves from Pusan at 1900 hours and arrives in Shimonoseki at 0800 hours the next morning. There are 3 different classes. Regular class you sleep on the floor and have a central shower area. I had a cabin with bunk beds and private bathroom and shower. I went in 2002 and the cost was 200,000 won. It might cost more now. Also in the Pusan Ferry Terminal there is a money changer. You will need Yen as the ship is funny. Some things you pay in Yen and somethings in Won. They only take those two currencies on the ship. Plus you will need Yen when you arrive in Japan. There is no money changer in Shimonoseki. Also it is a very long way from Tokyo. The phone number for Pukwan Ferry is 051-464-2700. Their website is: http://www.busanferry.co.kr/service?id=en_company_04. Also I had to pay a 600 Yen departure tax when I came back to Korea.
