Re: Offensive Language
Biff and Ironsider - if you are so self-assured about your freedom of speech, I challenge you. Go ahead and post your real names, ranks and units and allow me to speak with your command to verify that you are, indeed, entitled to your choice of language.
I can guarantee you - ALL of you (US military in Korea) - that if I *EVER* run across behavior of this sort, foul language in earshot of civilians be they American or foreign, I will be in contact with your command. Until the day that the commissary, bowling alley, or the shops in town become combat zones, and you are actively being fired upon, shut your mouth and show some respect for the people around you. Demonstrate the core values that drive the United States Armed Forces and showcase the integrity, honor and dignity that makes our fighting forces the best of the best. |

Re: Offensive Language
On a serious note, who is really going go give thier unit, command, and all their info to a civilian?? These are the same people who have been known get involved in international incidents. Crazy, I say...All what you can do is hope. You keep mentioning values but I think you were or are part of a different organization. I am just calling things how I see it. When I said that we were a country at war I was not referring to a war in Korea. I was referring to the War on Terror. Most people in my Organization are not lucky enough to get to hide out in Korea for 2-3 years. Most of my comrades went straight to the sand box after they left here. It would be cruel of me to think that everyone can understand hardship. I know that you did your 20 years, and I respect that. But times have changed since then.

We've all had our say now, so let's cool it a bit. The country may have free speech, but the forum and some public places have rules that limit certain language usage.
I believe we each now understand where the other person is coming from, and that is about all we can accomplish here. We probably can do little more than agree to disagree. Those that choose to believe that free speech includes profanity in public places may want to think twice before testing that theory for themselves, unless they are a rap music star with enough money to get away with it or pay the consequences. |

Biff.. While i respect your right to Freedom of Speech, I think you've missed one huge point here..we have a firm right to object to what you say as well, and even in our free country there are limitations to that Freedom of Speech. There are obscenity laws and statutes in place that limit how far that Freedom of Speech can go. Beyond that, AD service members of all branches are also governed by the uCMJ, which, as has been posted, clearly states that the use of such profanity isn't acceptable. And as if those points weren't enough...there's the simple fact that, whether by reg or not, our military members, regardless of branch are expected to maintain a certain level of decorum. *ANY* sort of inappropriate behavior takes away from that and reflects poorly on the individual. Finally, while I'm not taking away from the very valuable and important work done by the men and women who serve at Camp Casey, to excuse bad behavior by saying they're experiencing "difficult times" doesn't really hold water. 95% of all military members in Korea are here without their families...in that, Casey isn't an unique experience..and whether 2ID or not.. each base has a set of rules that are more than likely far stricter than the men and women stationed there have encountered before. Every military member in Korea faces challenges, it's how you respond to those challenges that really matters..in my opinion, if you allow yourself to be dragged down into inappropriate behavior, you've already lost the battle. Quite frankly, I personally don't care what you say in your private time, or away from proper company...but if you're out in public, and in the presence of ladies or even more importantly *impressionable children*, it's only good manners to try to police yourself and be on your best behavior. Biff, in case you didn't realize it, you've made what can be construed as a threat against chuck's person. If he chose to open the can of worms, and report this as such, you could be looking at some major trouble. While many assume the internet gives them anonymity, in fact, it gives you far less than you think. In the instance of a law or uCMJ code being broken, your personal information, as you provided when you signed up to this board, can be obtained fairly easily. This isnt an official military site, nor is it protected as such. Furthermore, you should, at this moment, be praying for Chuck's safety, because if anything, even something you're not remotely involved in, happens to him... what you've just said could put you at the top of the list as far as who they're going to go looking for. Somehow, I don't even think being stationed at Camp Casey makes you above the law. As far as the principles of netiquette go..and yes, there is such a concept, even in the cyberworld, there are certain standards observed... be glad our moderators are patient and kind folks.. posts like that, even in our 'free country' can get you kicked off a board so fast your head will swim. Now, on a totally different sort of note, this behavior simply reeks of high school testoterone. In case you haven't noticed, the whole "Meet me on the football field after school" lost that whole "I'm a cool stud, and billy bad butt" effect after graduation, and just really isn't that impressive anymore. It's juvenile, immature, and really unworthy of a board of this caliber. Dee :) Last edited by rndspringer : 11-29-2007 at 12:24 PM. |

Re: Offensive Language
Pulling rank on the internet is absolutely ridiculous. I was obviously making a joke. Are you that uptight? Loosen up and laugh a little. You only get to live life once. Don't be remembered as the d*ckhead. Be remembered as the guy that could take a joke. Thats all I have to say about that. Have a good night everyone. I shall continue to cuss.

Re: Offensive Language
I'm on a board full of tattle tales. That's way more childish than using foul language. I have yet to have a commander that didn't use foul language. We are in the military. I didn't choose to be in the military to be a sensitive softy. I am very proud to serve. Yes I do avoid cussing around children and shut other people up if they cuss in front of children. I also will not cuss around the elderly. So gingersmurf if you are elderly I wont cuss in front of you. However I realize that you have no respect for the infantry that fights for your freedom. If they cuss and adults are around I see no problem. Do you watch only PG movies??? If you stop watching a movie because of too much cussing then it's more than likely a religious issue. Open up and explain yourself to us. I might actually respect you if you give me a little background about why you feel the way you feel. I just believe in keeping it clean around kids and the elderly. Thats all I gotta say.........
