AFN Commercials
I'm bored today...and was watching an AFN commercial and It dawned on me that all most all people in AFN commercials are enlisted. If it's getting a DUI (the majority of enlisted cannot even drive), OPSEC, Stealing or what ever the purpose is.
The only time you really ever see an officer is when they are talking about AER, or something like that? Is it just me or am I digging to deep into this? Ahhhhhhhhh

Guess you missed the Stars and Stripes Paper today! Some Army Major was pictured on the front page, and he allegedly did some bad things. There have been stories about Lieutenants, and other Officers in the paper quite often.
Yeah, the Media may well be influenced by the senior officers and NCO's who attempt to give the good news about the military in the headlines as much as possible, and downplay showing their dirty laundry to the world. Isn't that human nature? Is it something bad we want to show to the public and to our host country! Of course not. Is there more emphasis on enlisted problems with the law? Yes. Why? They are much more numerous, generally less experienced, younger, and less educated than the officers, and they cause most of the problems. Some may be offended by my words. If so, gain experience, and get educated. It couldn't be easier. In fact, the education is FREE! It is the EFFORT that is hard. I got really sick of the campaign against human trafficking barrage that went on most all of last year. Thanks to those who got rid of that one! I believe that was overkill. I think the current Media comment about women can dress anyway they please, and that doesn't invite sexual harassment, is a poor choice of words, and needs to be removed. I'm not so sure the commercials about abusing alcohol are as offensive. And they may hopefully be effective in addressing a problem which is a MAJOR problem with the younger generation of soldiers. I think offering rehab and other assistance could be mentioned as well, for some balance. I am not personally fully aware of the training that is given the new troops in STD's and the consequences of abusing alcohol. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but it seems to me that there is not sufficient punishment imposed on these troops who disobey regulations. Let's offend someone once in a while! What's up with punishment these days? Last edited by Mr. Joe : 11-23-2007 at 07:45 PM. |

Re: AFN Commercials
Actually, it's mainly because most of the servicemembers we have are junior enlisted...I don't really want to be in the commercials (the Korean cable company one was more of a "have to").
But it is worth checking into and seeing if next time we can have an officer "perp". LTC Lawhorn |

Sir, sounds good. I understtand Mr. Joe's point also. To me, why should you show a junior enlisted or junior NCO getting a DUI when they cannot even drive? I know enlisted are more plentiful, but enlisted have a bad rep for years ago and showing commercials like that don't help. Just my opinion.....

Re: AFN Commercials
I hate politically correct. I wish we could all just be blunt with how we feel about things. Yes it may offend people but sh*t man it'll get things rolling faster. If I think someone is ugly/gay/rude/mean I should be able to tell them. I don't expect them to change but at least they'll know how I feel about them. I love it when I come across a military person that says what they feel instead of "being sensitive" to how I feel. AFN commericals are "politically correct" almost always. If I see a female that is attractive I should be able to appreciate her beauty. I'm not a robot. I WILL compliment a female if she is looking good. It doesn't mean I'm going to assault or bother her any further. I'm a f*CKIN MAN for Christ's sake. Do any of you USFKers disagree????

Re: AFN Commercials
I know what you mean sir, sometimes when I write down or type what I mean, it does not always come out how I actually mean it to be.

I bet your the type that while in civilllian clothes and a General walks by you would not salute or even give him the greeting of the day.

Hey Biff! You are pulling Chucksnee's chain again!
When your alien friends arrive, should we address them as illegal aliens, or undocumented workers, or maybe just "SIR"? Shsong will be interested in meeting them. Don't you think we should identify a landing area somewhere near the DMZ? (I'm afraid they might land in North Korea, and think Kim Jong Il is the ruler of the world.) ![]() |
