Actually, this week I was standing on the sidewalk on Coiner and was literally bumped into by a Katusa who was so engaged in talking and looking into the eyes of another Katusa that he physically bumped into me! They kept going and I'll never know if they were too embarassed or too uncaring to stop. They seem to live in their own world sometimes.

Right and Koreans don't feel disrespected when a bunch of drunk GI's are always yelling and acting stupid on the way back to base every night. I know that it's not all GI's, but there is a very large group. There is a reason that they don't like us. And they will continue to dislike us until we prove them wrong.

Well, again it is hard to generalize. We started talking about KATUSA's and now we are down to "No wonder Koreans don't like us."
Some KATUSAS , I think, and I have read some things one wrote in a sort of diary he kept in English, are disillusioned by the lack of being accepted as an equal by the Army guys they work with. Personally, I believe there are many variables, such as personality, looks, demeanor, age, and mainly language, that cause these inequalities.
The guys that bumped into me last week were just young and inattentive. Then they were embarrassed and wanted to get away quickly to avoid "losing face." now there is a subject we Americans need to understand. A subject for another Topic entirely.
And yes, we do often look like the ugly American if we don't behave in an acceptable manner in public. Let's work on that, and also go the extra mile to be friendly to the KATUSAS.

I'd like to comment on Katusa issues. I wound't be writing in organize d passion cuz I'm working in the office while doing this. Under the supervision, but my puropse is to contribute something on the board. Let's do this.


First of all, I would like to star off with a little back ground info here to move on Katusa issues. I have ripped off my U.S green card to join the Marine corps in Korea to protect and serve my country as most of you do. a lot of people told me I was complelty crazy. Anyway, I was stationed in Po-hang 1st marine divison during 97-99 which I had very good chance to meet fellow U.S marines. In general , they were super freindly and keen about us. I gave my Green beret (Straight outta factory fresh G.I supply) to one of them and he gave me Play boy magazine. I was like DAYEEM !!! After that sh** happens, Imagine ENTIRE CREW'S GONE WILD, ENTIRE MARINE's even PLATOON's GONE WILD to toss around the hotti piccies. I was the one who got the magazine.But I had to report to the FIRST LT who runs our company. Cuz He wanted that magazine! WOT UP SOLDIER...U got the magazine report immediately. WTF Resf of them do the meth.

I had a couple of nerdy KATUSA freinds myself. so lemme break it down for ya.I think there are couple of reasons which katausa's are sucks in general. It's cultural difference to point out unfrieldliness. They are not familair with talking strangers and say HI. They had experiences in overseas only couple of years. It;s not long enough to adopt themselves to such Westernized systems. I woundln't say It was long enough to be cross culturalized. They won't be acting AMERICANS. Probably they wanted to ..but holding it inside of it until MAMA ask him to spill the beans. My suggestion is to look at JOKES thread which I explained about DANGGUN EEJEE(of course). Use that phrase to break some ice. It could be used very widly. Um,.There must be some sort of KATUSA ACT DOCTRINES from higher ranks to ignore US soldires for certian reasons in general. I do not want to go into further.

I had a fist fight with KATUSA cuz once they acted like an asshole + being smart ass with disrespectful manners to fellow marines at ITAEWON. Now I'm back on it It was my bad on some parts. Nowdays I think about WHAT MA MAMA SAYS! THINK ABOUT YOUR MAMA ! I didn't know this pharse back in 97.

My conclusion is Cutural difference plays a huge part of this problem.
Not all of Katusa's are an asshole or Nerd , only some of them .. a person.
Nowdays I do feel and think about how important what RESPECT means.
