Re: Bell plans to ease curfew restrictions
I think the question here is less one of rank, than maturity levels.
Many NCO's at E5 and up are 30ish, with families, and more established in their career and life. They're far less likely to go out and do something stupid. The same can be said for officers, of that same age range, and maturity levels. A young lieutenant, however, is likely early 20's straight out of college, single, and probably not as established in life and career..and ultimately...is as likely to do something stupid as anyone else his age. Officer, or enlisted...rank doesn't matter.. young and stupid is still young and stupid. :) At that age,and maturity level, you're still learning life lessons and making mistakes..and no badge, no rank, is going to guarantee instant maturity. LOL..ask any mom of a recent college grad! :) While rank does have, and always has had it's privileges, those who wear that rank may or may not be ready to handle the responsibility that goes along with those privileges. It's not a simple cut and dried thing, nor is it one that can be viewed in such general statements as "All officers are more mature and can handle it better" or "NCO's are more likely to do something stupid". :) Dee :) Last edited by rndspringer : 01-27-2008 at 11:53 PM. |

Re: Bell plans to ease curfew restrictions
I shouldn't be surprised that it wasn't an age tier, but a rank tier policy. I dont believe depending on rank makes you have more integrity, but the percentages would probably prove differently. I know I have witnessed higher ranks, E and O categories, getting away with breaking the rules, but i think maybe an age tier would be a more likely and realistic policy.

Dee and Willy win my support. The statistics support the younger soldiers and airmen being the ones with the most offenses. Of course some senior NCO's and Officers DO get involved, but the numbers ARE much fewer. Read it and weep.
Curfew? There is no good reason for it in my view, other than possibly giving OSI and CID agents a few more hours of sleep, and less driving downtown with interpreters in the wee hours of the morning to rescue someone from the KNP who probably doesn't deserve to be rescued. Dependants? Well, as long as they fall under SOFA, they will be the responsibility of the Military, too. Sorry about any restrictions on your freedom. Commander's Discretion? I kind of like SSNAPIER's suggestion! Give out a pass to those who have shown ability to control their own actions, and no pass to known risks! I will be watching for any changes in USFK rules. Be responsible for your own actions. Last edited by Mr. Joe : 02-02-2008 at 02:19 AM. |

Re: Bell plans to ease curfew restrictions
I totally agree DrWorm, O-3 & E-5 below both need a curfew. These ranks are generally comprised personnel 25<. These are the ones that generally don't know how to drink responsibly, fight, and cause trouble. Although some older people do get in trouble (alcohol tends to do that in everyone), it is less likely. I'm not picking on the young, I was young once and although I was a responsible drinker I saw many things to lead me to this opinion.

Re: Bell plans to ease curfew restrictions
Why argue about it??? Bust the Mother*****R...There are 25,000 Joes in Korea...Seoul alone is around 10-15 million....They probably have more Joes in Baghdad, and they still struggle with that...So you do the math...Make mine "Whether Pass"...I was always told to do what my rank would afford...

Wrong on so many levels it's unbelievable. 1. Rank alone does not make one mature or more responsible...in the USAF it means either you test well, or kissed enough ass to get STEP'd to the next stripe...none make you any more mature than a E-4 2. What about the guy/gal who entered service late in life...a 30 year old E-4 is more likely to be a little more mature than the 25 year old Army E-6/7. What constitutes mature...the old Good Conduct medal, not getting into trouble or no A15's? My first tour in Korea I carried my E-9 back to the hotel because he had no self control and almost got arrested acting like an ass...is that mature? Curfews are stupid, squadron commanders should limit curfews to those they determine are abusing it...in other words you get in trouble you get treated like a baby and have to be at home like a teenager. I for one hate the idea of someone telling a grown 37 year old man when he can come home...not only are you (the AF) pulling me away from my large home, my family and my life, but then you start treating me like a child by telling me to be at home....I haven't had a curfew for 20 years. The AF see's fit to grant me access to classified information, place me in charge of millions of dollars of equipment...but says I'm not mature enough to stay out past _____hours.....no wonder my airman bail at 4/6 years. |

Really, do your "stat's" take into account the actual numbers...There are more junior members than senior...so of course the numbers will be higher due to the amount of people... RANK has nothing to do with someone actions! Are you people really that dumb to think that Rank changes ones social behavior....a dumbass will always be a dumbass, not matter what rank they wear. Jesus you people are brainwashed. |
