voluntary retirements announced for officers
It looks like the Air Force is targeting Lt Col and Col ranks with this next wave of early retirements. You must have 20 years of total active duty service to apply. From the Air Force's official web site.

Lieutenant colonels and colonels who are retirement eligible are encouraged to apply for retirement between now and Sept. 1, 2007.
I have also heard rumor of a 15-year retirement to be offered soon as the Air Force is being forced to cut 40,000 from the active duty force.
