You can get a rat nest for $300-$400 a month and a decent clean two bedroom for $600-$700 a month.

Re: Anyone Living Outside Camp Casey?

To continue this thread, does anyone know anything about the process of moving off post at Casey for joint domicile SMs? I recently found out it was possible and was told that the probability of moving off post rested entirely with my wife's and my commander. Are most commanders giving JD SM's the go-ahead? Does Casey have a housing office that can recommend realtors? It is problematic finding a place that allows pets?

Even though command sponsorship is not an option for most all in Area I ,
you are still authorized free legal advice. There willl be help in finding a decent home, and a good lease. I can't tell you the price of apartments, but your husband can easily find out. Actually, you are lucky to have an infant. Wives with school age kids usually end up living in Seoul near a school, and the husbands come down when they can.

Re: Anyone Living Outside Camp Casey?

So I know this is an old thread but is melly83b still in Korea? How'd it go with getting a place near Camp Casey and was your husband able to live with you? I'll be experiencing the same thing shortly. Someone suggested we try and live in Seoul and he commute. Anyone have any opinions?

Re: Anyone Living Outside Camp Casey?

Hi There! I have been living in Dongduchon for almost 3 yrs now and hubby is Civilian working at Casey. First of all, it is a good idea for your hubby to get with housing office to check for apartments/housing. Another thing is-- are you Command Sponsored? If not, then $$ will be out of your pocket for housing and permission is needed for him to live off post. There are some nice apartments...I live in Ace Apartments, but there are some newer ones in New City..which is maybe 3-4 miles from post. Traffic is bad here and it's kinda like driving thru an obstacle course..hahaha..which is why I let my hubby do the driving or I take a taxi. People are friendly when you make an attempt to learn their culture. We have made alot of friends while being here. Camp Casey is not the best post but it does have a good bit of things to offer. The PX does not have alot of baby things in it, so perhaps you can bring what you can. Alot of things on the economy are quite pricey. If you have any more questions..just ask..be more than happy to help out.

Um, that sounds way, way too high. $600 - $700 a month should get you a palace in Dongducheon. Dongducheon has one of the lowest rents outside Seoul. My decent two bedroom apartment in Songnaedong costs only $30,000 key money. A three bedroom 23 pyong apartment should only cost around $500 a month or so.

The other thing that I've seen is that those people who have to live close to base pay more for worse housing. If you live in the New City area of Dongducheon (Songnaedong, Jihaengdong) you can find better apartments. I know it's possible to live further away from Camp Casey, because some soldiers live in the same Buyeong Apartment complex as me. So that's my advice, get your superiors to sign off on you living further away than a 10 minute run, because it will be well worth it.
