Military coins

I was wondering if anyone has had any coins made? What is the average cost to have some made? I know that there are tons of places around here to get them made but does anyone have a recommendation of a place that does quality work for a decent price? Preferably around the Humphreys or Osan area.

Re: Military coins

The best thing to do is find a coin shop that already has a die you like.

What makes a coin so costly, is the making of the die.

Is there a special reason you want to make a coin?

Just shooting off the hip....I would say expect to spend $300-$500.

$150 +- to make the die, and $5-$10 a coin after that with a limit of 100 coins.

Re: Military coins

I ordered some from Mike's All Seasons in Songtan a fews years back. He was very reasonable, actually cheap if you ask me. He is right in the main city walk area near Aragon Alley (this is where he was last time I was there). One added bonus...he speaks english very well and there shouldn't be any communication problems.

Re: Military coins

The first batch is the most expensive as Chuck said. Then it is like $200 for the follow on batches.

Actually I've taken up a new hobby called geocaching. There's a guy up at Casey who is looking into making a Korea geocoin and I thought I would check out the prices down here.

Re: Military coins

Actually, if you're looking for a batch...Song's right outside the gate in Osan will deal as low as $3.33 per coin...and that's the FIRST batch including mold.

We just had some nice coins and belt buckles made there.

Re: Military coins

I actually worked part-time translating emails for Mr. Song when I was in high school. His shop received the most business from what I heard through my older brother, who was stationed in Osan AFB, and through all the emails I had to translate from different military organizations not just stationed in Korea but worldwide.

Here's the website http://www.songscoin.com/, but I don't know how updated it is.

Also, the owner, Mr. Song passed away this year. RIP. My mom is very close friends with his wife and told me this tragic news. Thus, I didn't ask whether the store is still operating or not.
